102-106 8 February 2012 Essay Response Harrison Bergeron In this essay Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. talks about how the government is in control of the people by making them all equal either by making them look ugly or by giving them handicap devices. One might think that equality is a good thing but difference is always the best factor. Hazel did not have to have any handicap but her husband did. Hazel felt left out she says, Id think it would be real interesting, hearing all the different sounds (294). This makes Hazel feel like she was not equal to everybody else because she did not have a handicaps. Eventually someone will figure out a way to get around the government. Another part of the essay is where Hazel and George are talking Hazel says, Reckon itd fall apart, then George is like What would?(295) The government is not showing equal rights and treating them equal, so they are not treating them equal. The people without the handicaps are sometimes smarter. Its not right to make people equal. Word count 218
