"The search for age-friendly solutions is particularly critical right now due to two fundamental global demographic trends:

The world is aging at an unparalleled rate. In just a little over 30 years, older people will outnumber children throughout the world. This is the largest wave of urban growth in history. For the first time, more than half the world's population will reside in cities and towns rather than on farms or in rural areas. AARP does not look at those facts as a cause for alarm, but as a call for creative thinking, and forward looking planning to make sure that people of all ages live active, healthy, and purposeful lives." healthy, meaningful living

moves
us

Since we were founded in 2005, we have been enthusiastic about healthy living in all
its wonderful variety. We are fond of giggling babies, busy adults, and robust older adults. We even think teenagers, or young adults as we call them, can be pretty cool. We look at diversity from a Holistic perspective: Physically, mentally and spiritually. Once you have experienced the Center for Independence and Longevity approach to healthy living, we are certain it will move you, too.

The Viva! Choices Center for Independence and Longevity

There are nearly 78 million Baby Boomers in America who control over $2 trillion annually in spending power. By 2030, this vital generation will comprise almost 25% of the U.S. population. Inevitably, this massive aging of the populace will have an increasing financial impact on healthcare and other service providers that allow them to function in daily life. As a result, new opportunities exist to aid in everything from education about healthy living, to legal and financial advice, to transportation to taking out the trash. Baby Boomers are the main reason the health advocacy field is estimated to become a $1billion market soon. Boomer males and females alike (95%) agree that they desire to age-in-place, that is to age in the comfort of their own home. Because it is so important to them, they would like to assist family members in doing the same. Maintaining independence is the only way that Boomers will accomplish this goal for their family and themselves. The Center for Independence and Longevity is the Boomer Solution to aging in place it is the vehicle by which the Baby Boomer Generation which has a strong influence over up to 5 generations will re-define aging as we know it. The Viva! Choices Center for Independence and Longevity, a non-profit organization, is a new venture that will connect Baby Boomers and their family with all of the resources and services they need to live an unprecedented quality of life. The center will offer a variety of different levels of membership, and it will become the first point of contact and central source for Boomers and their family

Healthy living
is more than a trip
from point A to point Z
Its a journey that lasts a lifetime; a path that offers fresh new views of the possibilities ahead and continually challenges us to go further. Thats the spirit that drives us, and its the spirit we work to instill in our members.

Healthy living is a prerequisite for independence and longevity. Being proactive about healthy living today will pay off with big rewards for the future.

What does it take to live healthy? There are dozens of things we can do on a daily basis, but here are a few of the most important things: Eat a diet low in fat and high in fiber with lots of fruits and vegetables Make drinking plenty of water a priority Move. Walking is wonderfulpark in the last spot in the parking lot, walk to get the mail, walk while you talk on the telephone Learn new ways to cook so that you will stay focused on living healthy Get educated about all of the products on the market that can help you to live healthy and stay independent Socialize with others on a regular basis Do things that you love to do today, dont put them off until tomorrow Manage your finances for the future Our members will have access to a wide variety of services that will assist them in living a healthy life. Hands-on healthy cooking and nutrition classes will be available, information sessions will offer creative ways to get you moving, information about new products, services and technologies in the market that aid with movement, and will give you information about how to find employment as well as different ways that you can pay for staying independent etc.

Products that help you to live healthy will be offered in the Viva! Marketplace and online. This is the place where members can learn about and purchase new mobility equipment, nutritionals, food and technology that can make life easier and the quality of life richer. Resource and support groups will give caregivers and all center members much needed information, socialization and support to help reduce stress and improve their quality of life. Caregivers will also have access to vetted and screened Certified Independence Specialists that can fill in or help on a regular basis. In centers where the senior meal program and services are housed there is an opportunity for seniors to socialize and get healthy meals. Of course, our efforts to assist our members in healthy living do not stop when members leave the center. We help them along with online tools for weight loss and stress reduction; with health education classes; and even with healthy food that can be purchased in our marketplace via the drive-thru window. The Center for Independence and Longevity makes living a healthy life and accomplishing the goal of independence easy, fun and most of all quite exciting!

across the country, helping people to live the healthiest lives possible. From birth on we are all aging and by nature we insist on becoming more and more independent. Once full independence has been achieved, it becomes of utmost importance to maintain that independence and live out ones life on ones own terms. The centers membership director is the first point of contact in assisting members with their goals, starting with an initial consultation that allows the member to become familiar with the amenities of the center, services available and develops an overall plan for healthy living. The center Administrator oversees all of the functions and activities of the center, paying special attention to the energy and flow of the center, scheduling events, seminars and training. Concierges make services easier to access and help members to save time. The Transportation Concierge coordinates all of the transportation requests of members, focusing on making sure that members feel special, like they have their very own personal chauffer.

We are choosy about our staff, contactors and volunteers who provide world class service to our members.

In the center, we never call people 60+ years of age senior we call them by their names, we see them as older adults. We never call people age 12 to 19 kids or teens, we call them by their names, we see them as young adults. We call Boomers, who believe that maintaining independence as they age is of highest priority, Boomers. Depending on the age and generation a person comes from, our staff is trained to know how best to address everyone that comes into the center. Respect and protecting the dignity of our members is of utmost importance. The Center for Independence and Longevity staff, contractors and volunteers are specially trained to see people through age friendly lenses, removing any possibility of prejudice. The result is an environment that transcends most available in communities

All center staff, volunteers and contractors are there to assist members in learning about the newest technologies, health food and products, mobility equipment and caregiving resources. Members also have access to screened, vetted, background checked and trained in home service providers that help them to save time, make life easier and take care of the increasing needs of loved ones.

No matter what your age, culture or abilities, the Center for Independence and Longevity is your weekly destination for fun and excitement, education and training, social interaction and exercise, healthy eating and nutrition; a totally life changing experience that and your family wont want to miss!

The Viva! Choices Center for Independence and Longevity upping the ante on quality of life in communities across the country and around the world.

What makes a community healthy? AARP defines a healthy community as being livable, which means that it: Has a well publicized information hotline or directory of services for older persons Offers meals-on-wheels and congregate meal programs that are easily accessible for older persons Offers and publicizes volunteer opportunities. Has a reliable, widely publicized source of information about home care, cleaning services, maintenance services and transportation for older adults and their family members that is updated regularly. Offers specialized support groups for older residents and their caregivers. Offers easily accessible opportunities for informal sharing and social interaction that is readily available to community members and people moving into the community. Offers intergenerational programs that are well publicized. To maximize the health of a community, the Center for Independence and Longevity combines the characteristics of a livable community with the character-

istics of a NORC (naturally occurring retirement community) and an Age Friendly community as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), offering residents of all ages in a community the resources, products and support necessary to live an unprecedented quality of life. A NORC program is an innovative model that coordinates a broad range of social and health care services to support the residents of the NORC. Using a proactive approach, a NORC seeks to deepen the connections older adults have to their communities before crises occur. NORC programs also promote community change including: Empowering older adults to take on new roles in shaping communities that work for them Weaving a tighter social fabric fostering connections among residents and the community Maximizing the health and well-being of all older adults in the NORC An age friendly community as defined by the World Health Organization and AARP is a community that creates environments that promote healthy and purposeful living for people of all ages.

Michael Bloomberg the mayor of New York was presented with the first certificate of membership in the World Health Organizations Network of Age Friendly cities in June of 2010. The WHO definition of an age friendly city is an urban environment that promotes healthy and active aging. WHO has identified eight domains that are compatible with the livable communities approach and that qualify a city as being age friendly: transportation outdoor spaces and buildings housing social participation respect and social inclusion civic participation and employment communication and information community support and health services Combining all of the above philosophies using the WHO domains listed as the first point of reference we have: transportation - has a reliable, widely publicized source of information about home care, cleaning services, maintenance services and transportation for older adults and their family members that is updated regularly - has a well publicized information hotline or directory of services for older persons outdoor spaces and buildings - empowering older and younger adults to take on new roles in shaping communities that work for them

housing affordable, accessible housing for everyone social participation - weaving a tighter social fabric fostering connections among residents and the community - offers intergenerational programs that are well publicized respect and social inclusion - offers easily accessible opportunities for informal sharing and social interaction that is readily available to community members and people moving into the community civic participation and employment - offers and publicizes volunteer opportunities. communication and information - offers specialized support

There is great strength in healthy diversity. There are three questions that we would like to ask of youthe Mayor and City Council of Yuba City: Is the city of Yuba City ready to make the commitment to building a Center for Independence and Longevity where people of all ages, cultures

and abilities in the community can belong and work together to live healthy lives well into their 100s? Is the city of Yuba City ready to make the commitment necessary to becoming the first Award Winning city where people from all over the country want to retire, and where businesses exist, are born and/or relocated, because they believe that they will thrive based on their participation in the center? Is the city of Yuba City ready to make the commitment necessary to keep people living comfortably in their own homes and active in the community for generations to come? When the answers to the above questions are yes, the city of Yuba City will find that there is a group of extremely committed, intelligent and experienced professionals who will make the center a reality.
