Whats the Japanese Climate like?

It really depends where in Japan you are as the climate can vary greatly from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south. Japan has four very distinct seasons. Winter is typically very cold and it snows in most mountainous parts of Japan. Spring is warm and the temperature is very mild with average temperatures of around 12-20C in Tokyo/Osaka. Summer is very hot and humid with a rainy season in June that is quite wet. Autumn is mild and pleasant with warm days and cool mornings and evenings. Graph of Japanese Climate:

What is each season like in Japan? Spring: The maximum daily temperature rises from 55F in early march over to 70F in May. Individual days can be warmer or colder. Rainfall consists of 100-150mm per month with more rain later in the season, no typhoons at this time of year. The cherry blossoms come out in late march or early April. Winter: A cold winter day is around 0-5celcius. A mild winter day is around 10celcius. Rarely does the temperature go below freezing. Its very cold in Japan during winter; department stores pump the heat up rapidly in winter. Japanese winter is particularly fun if you go to Niigata or Hokkaido, because you will see the beautiful snow and you can ski there. Autumn: Autumn months are basically September, October, and November. Leaves beautifully turn red, orange, and yellow, and look very beautiful. Fall foliage is called "kouyou" in Japanese which literally means red leaves. The weather is generally quite cool.
