Development of the periodic table

John Newlands (1838-1898) Proposed the law of octaves. He notice that when the known elements were arranged in order of atomic mass, every eight element had similar properties. However this trends does not hold true for elements beyond calcium. Octave same chemical properties -

Dmitri Mendeleev ( 1834-1907)

Arranged the elements in order of increasing atomic mass. Element with the same properties are placed in the same vertical group. Spaces are left for the unknown elements. Based on the elements position the properties the unknown elements can be predicted. He found that the properties the elements vary periodically according to its atomic mass.

Henry Moseley (1887-1915)

Discovered the relationship between X-ray spectra and the atomic number of the elements. He found that the order of increasing atomic number is the same as in order atomic mass. For example, Ca is the twentieth element in increasing order of atomic mass and it has an atomic number of 20.
