STEERING LINKAGE PRODUCTS & STEERING GEARS

INTRODUCTION

The products that are used to control the motion of wheels according to movement of steering are known as steering linkage products.
The objects that are used to convert rotary motion to angular motion are known as steering gear.

STEERING LINKAGE PRODUCTS

Ball pin Socket Tie rod Drag link Drop arm

BALL PIN & SOCKET

Ball pin is the object that can rotate about 360 degrees. The ball head is connected to socket. The tail end is connected to the drag link. Socket is used for holding the ball pin firmly. The stem of the socket is punched into the Tie rod.

DROP ARM & DRAG LINK

The drop arm is used to transmit power from steering gear box. Drag link is connected to drop arm & tie rod. Drag link operates the tie rod according to the movement of drop arm.

TIE ROD

Tie rod is hollow tube bent at both ends. The socket & ball pin are fitted to Tie rod at its ends. Tie rod is used to turn the wheels according to the steering direction.

STEERING GEARS

Worm Nut Rocker shaft Housing

WORM & NUT

Worm is a threaded blank which is connected to the steering system. The nut moves over the threaded portion of the worm. Both worm & nut transfers power to the Rocker shaft.

ROCKER SHAFT

Rocker shaft is a link which converts rotary motion into angular motion. Rocker shafts head portion is connected with nut & tail end is connected with drag link. They can be classified as follows Sector type Fork type

HOUSING

Housing can also be called as Gear box.

Worm,Nut & Rocker shaft are placed inside the housing.
