Bio for Dr.

Mumen Al-Badarin Assistant Professor in Arabic Grammar (Syntax and Morphology), Arabic Department, Faculty of Arts, Bethlehem University A teaching fellow in Bethlehem University Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning since Jan. 2011and still. Mumen started his career as a primary school teacher then a high school teacher for four years. In 2002 he joined the Arabic Department at Bethlehem University. In his current work at BU, Mumen teaches in both the Arabic Department and the Faculty of Education hoping to narrow the gap between studying Arabic as a major and teaching Arabic in schools. Mumen has participated in different training opportunities and workshops, such as the Best Practice Project (Norway), Competency Based Learning (the Netherlands) and Excellence in Teaching (Amideast-Palestine). His passion to learn and develop his teaching practices and methods has encouraged him to join the Center for Teaching Excellence as a Teaching Fellow to enrich the resources and facilities related to language teaching. What do I prefer to see in my visit to Portland University: Actually there is a lot of things that I do want to see, following is the important ones: 1/ New methodologies in teaching languages (English or Arabic) that you use in your university. 2/ Your experience in E-learning. 3/ Teaching Fellows roles and their participation in the learning center activities and planning. 4/ Action research activities that taking place in your university.

What can I offer during my visit to Portland University? There is a lot of things that I can present for instance: * Arabic department experience in e-learning, success & challenges (My current project) * Competency Based Learning in Education (A conference paper 2010) * My experience in Action research (My current research)
