1- DESCRIPTION This course is an introduction to creative design development and fashion design skills. Topics include: design processes of trend research, storyboard compiling, color story, fabric selection, draping design concepts, Photoshop drawing. There will be assigned projects in all of these areas. 2- OBJECTIVE At the end of the course the student will be able to organize and execute design ideas and create a collection of their own. 3- PREREQUISITES & REQUIREMENTS This is an introductory level course without pre-requisite, although an artistic background is helpful. 4- METHOD The course consists of lectures, technical and practical demonstrations, individual help, group critique and in class discussions. 5- ATTENDANCE - PARTICIPATION Attendance and punctuality are mandatory. Lack of punctuality will be penalized. Every absence will lower the attendance grade. During the Summer: After the third (2nd) absence the instructor may lower the final grade by one letter grade. After the fourth (3rd) absence the student may receive an Automatic Failure. 6- TESTS ASSIGNMENTS The course contains a final exam. Students also receive grades through the various assignments and long assigned projects that are given throughout the course. 7 - EVALUATION - GRADING SYSTEM When evaluating the exams and the assignments the following is taken into consideration: drawing skills, colour sense, personal creativity, trend awareness, estethics in work presentation, effort and attendance. The final grade is structured as follows: 40%Final Exam 25% Assignments 25% Improvement 10% Attendance A = 93- 100% C+ = 77- 79% A- = 90- 92% C = 73- 76% B+ = 87- 89% C- = 70-72% B = 83-86%B- = 80- 82% D = 60- 69% F= 0-59%

8 - TEXT BOOKS - FURTHER READINGS SOURCES Suggested readings: Figure Drawing for Fashion Design (see details at point 9). Handouts will be given regularly in class. The FUA library contains books and magazines that may be used for research and inspiration. 9 - EXTRA FEES

A lab fee of _______ is to be paid at the beginning of the semester for the use of the photocopy machine and the computer equipment. This fee must be paid within the 1st week of class and is valid for the whole course, no matter how many courses the student is attending at FUA. Lab fees are going to be paid directly to the FUA Front desk. A text book is required: Figure Drawing for Fashion Design (cost approx. 12 Euro). Approx. 70 Euro is the cost for personal supplies (see point 11). 10- VISITS There aren't visits planned during the course. 11- MATERIAL LIST Each student must provide the following materials for personal use, available at art and office supplies stores, such as: Lory, Piazza Frescobaldi Manzani, Piazza San Felice, 2/r Manzani, Via de Cerchi, 30/r Ortolani, Via della Scala 14/r Salvini, via degli Alfani 27 Materials: Very light, smooth and slightly A4 paper ( SCHIZZA E STRAPPA or similar ) 2H,3B pencil Pencil sharpener Eraser Ruler, max 30cm long 02, 07 markers 5/6 Pantone Markers ( later during the course) A whiteout pen

The final cost of the supplies is depending on the amount of colours and quality of the supplies, however the minimum cost is approx. 70 Euro. 12 - FINAL EXAM The Final Exam is the presentation of a creative project that the student will have worked on for several weeks, both during class time and on their own. Students that will not attend the exam day will recieve an0 as relative grade for the exam. 13 - LESSONS FIRST WEEK 1. - Introduction to the course. - The world of fashion: different markets (prt--porter, haute couture, etc.), styles, trends, designers. - Description of the work of a fashion designer - The making of a fashion collection different steps (trend research, fabric fairs, moodboards or color storyboards, fabric selection, fashion drawings, prototypes fitting, final agents presentation and fashion show) 2. - What is a fashion drawing ( the visual and technical flat drawing) Studying the fashion figure and its proportion and Illustrating different poses. 3. SECOND WEEK 5. - The face, hands and shoes Sketching dresses: copying magazine pictures and real garments, creating outfits on different poses and coloring with Pantone markers. 6. - Drawing exercises on faces, hands and shoes - Sketching shirts: copying magazine pictures and real garments, creating outfits on different poses and coloring with Pantone markers. First lesson on textile 7. - Illustrating different poses taken from fashion magazines and coloring with pantone markers - Sketching skirts and pants copying magazine pictures and real garments. - Second lesson on textile 8.
