Name of the Game: Mystery Corners

Stage: Stage 2

Explanation Assign one child to be it in the centre of a rectangle area formed with cones. Assign 4 corners as a piece of fruit such as bananas, strawberries, apples and oranges. When the teachers yells go the children must all perform a particular type of movement to their corner (will begin with walking, then progress to power walking, skipping, hopping, sidestepping and running). The person in the centre will then yell out a particular fruit, the people in that corner then have to skip to the centre of the area and whoever gets there first is the new person in, the children in the corners that havent been chosen have to perform a movement such as jumping jacks, sit ups or skipping (with a skipping rope). This game will gradually get harder as children are asked to perform more strenuous moves to move around as mentioned above. 10-15 mins. By playing this game children are increasing their locomotor skills as they are now incorporating a range of movement to reach their goal position as throughout the game they are gradually asked to change their movements for each turn. Children are becoming aware of the space they need to occupy by creating space to reach the person in the middle in the most effective way. Children learn to play fairly in a group taking in safety considerations as well as the notion of corporation and increased competition as the game gets harder, such as when harder movements are introduced.

1. Moving Outcomes: MOS2.4 Displays a focus on quality of movement in applying movement skills to a variety of familiar and new situations.
Children are increasing their knowledge of movements and applying these within the game , i.e. skipping, running, hopping Children are being introduced to new situations involving new movements.

1. Problem Solving Outcomes: PSS2.5 Uses a range of problem-solving strategies

Children perform a simple movement sequence within a particular space or boundary, i.e. children perform the movement specified within the space of the cones and increasing levels. Children develop a strategy as to how they are able to reach the person in the middle effectively and within a certain allocated time.

2. Decision Making Outcomes: DMS2.2 Makes decisions as an individual and as a group member
Children decide how they will reach their target or goal
