Art Show Prospectus

NAME OF SHOW: AAFTA Auburn Avenue Library Show SHOW DATES: Thursday, Aug 2 - Sunday, Sept. 23. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Tuesday, July 17 SHOW EVENT CALENDER: Jury Panel Meeting: Saturday July 21 Artist Notifications: Tuesday, July 25 Drop Off Artwork: Tuesday July 31, 10:00am-5:00 pm. Hang Artwork: Wednesday, August 1, 10:00am 5:00pm Opening Reception: Saturday, Aug. 4, 2pm - 5pm Pick Up Artwork: Monday, Sept. 24 - Friday, Sept. 28, 10am - 5:00pm AWARDS: Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place and Peoples Choice Award ELIGIBILITY: Artists must be a current paid AAFTA member. Artists must be 18 years old or older. Original, fine art and fine craft media, including: photography, sculpture, glass, clay, wood, metal, fiber, paint, paper, printmaking and other mixed media are eligible. Non-members may obtain an application online at www.a-afta.org or at the monthly meetings. The annual membership fee (Jan.-Dec.) is $25.00. APLICATION GUIDELINES: Artists must adhere to the following guidelines to be accepted into the exhibit. The AAFTA Board retains the right to exclude any work that does not subscribe to the following: 1. All works submitted must be original works of the applicant. Commercial reproductions, copies, prints or artist-enhanced reproductions will be omitted. 2. Applications must be submitted digitally to aafta437@gmail.com. 3. Digital images of work (up to 6 images) must be submitted with the application. Send files to: aafta437@gmail.com 4. Digital images must be 1400 pixels at the longest dimension at 300 DPI in jpeg format. 5. 2D Works must not to exceed 36wide framed. 3D Works must not exceed 45 lbs. or 60 in any direction. 6. Application fee of $25.00 is due with application. Late fee of $30.00 is due with late application. 7. All entrants must submit a biography and artists statement about the work submitted. 8. Artwork must have been created within the past 2 years. 9. Artwork must be properly framed and ready to hang with hardware in place. (no saw tooth hangers) Work must be suitably prepared for exhibition and durable enough to sustain normal handling and installation. Pedestals must be provided by the artist for 3 dimensional works. 10. Each individual piece of artwork must be labeled with the following: a. Artists Name c. Medium & Size b. Title of Work d. Sales Price (Optional)

ARTIST NOTIFICATION: Notification of artist selected to exhibit will be emailed to all members and posted in the member section of the a-afta.org website. JURY PROCESS:

The identities of the Artists will be hidden from the Jurors who will view the digital applications in random sequence. The Jurors will evaluate the Artists work, and Artist Statement. Artists will be scored on a scale of 1 (low) to 5 (high). The top scoring Artists will be selected to participate in the Show. The jurors are Dr. William Colvin, Marcella Muhammad and Aaron Henderson. INSURANCE Artist assumes responsibility for insurance of all artwork on exhibit. SALES Entries may be offered for sale. Payment for artwork will be made to AAFTA and 20% will go to AAFTA. The artist will receive a check for the balance and a letter of donation for the artwork sold. ** SMALL WORKS WALL ** The Small Works Wall will be a non-juried featured wall of artwork. Submission is open to all AAFTA members. Members may submit one piece for the Small Works Wall. Works must be no larger than 10 inches in any direction. Works must be ready to hang, no sawtooth hangers and wire preferred.

The undersigned does hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless African Americans For The Arts, its principals, and anyone affiliated with the organization from any responsibility whatsoever for damage, loss or injury of any kind. African Americans for the Arts has my permission to photograph me and/or my art work and use it for advertising, publicity and archival purposes. I have read the terms and conditions set forth in the show prospectus and agree to abide by them and such rules and regulations that may be established by African Americans for the Arts.
