Physics 204 Experiment 6 Newtons Second Law

DATA SHEET Name: ___Carson Bell______________ Date: __May 27, 2012_________ Prediction 1. 2. What happens to an object when you apply a net force to it? When you apply a net force to an object it accelerates in the direction of the net force. What happens to the motion of an object if it has a constant mass but you change the magnitude of the net force on it? If you change the magnitude of the net force on an object it will accelerate proportion to the net force, and will either increase or decrease. Paste the velocity-time graph of your data showing the four fits

Calculation of the frictional force (show your work)

f = Fapplied M T 1a1 The force applied is equal to the weight of the hanger and is 6.67*9.8=65.37N The total mass is equal to 109 as stated above and the acceleration was found to be .308. f = 65.37-(109*.308) = 31.79

f = _31.79______N 7.

Questions 9. Why did the slope change for each run? The slope for each run changed because the force applied to it was increased and therefore the acceleration was increased. For runs #2, #3, #4, what did you observe about the slope of the Linear Fit as the net force increased? The slope of the Linear Fit increased. What are the units for the slope for each graph? Explain. The units for the slope would be m/s^2 because you dividing m/s by seconds and that is also the unit for acceleration. What happens to an objects acceleration if the net force applied to the object is increased but the objects mass remains constant? It will increase proportional to the increase of the net force.
