What is the project about? A weeklong art intensive program where we take a group of volunteers to help empower children. Our goal is to spark an interest of learning within to help them visualize a better life. We leave the children with a gift of empowerment and sense of I am cared for.; an immeasurable gift to a community that lives in an area deemed by the government as uninhabitable. The children are stuck in a cycle of poverty. It is our aim to show them they are capable of emerging from their dealt circumstances. What is drawchange about? Drawchange contributes to the education of the worlds poorest and most vulnerable children by bringing art into their daily lives. In 2005, The Rand Corporation observed that involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Children in the most impoverished areas often do not attend school because they are sent out to panhandle for money, or support their families' immediate needs in other ways. Drawchange provides the means to improve school attendance, leading to gains in academic performance, by supplying the materials and instruction that inspire children to create real and lasting change for themselves and their families.
