Music Lessons and Practice Prize

Please could all children remember to take their instruments home after their lesson each week to enable practice at home. Practice is a vital part of learning an instrument, little and often will make a huge difference to their progress and, in turn, enjoyment of playing. We are now lucky enough to have a very special trophy prize to be awarded for the most practice at the end of each term! Mini concerts at home are most certainly encouraged!! Many thanks for your support. Mrs Warn

Guest Storyteller Assembly

The whole school was treated to a great story in assembly on Thursday told by a fabulous, captivating storyteller called John Lloyd.

told a wonderful story called "The Shrinking He

of Treehorn" by Florence Parry Heide. It tells of a little boy who believes he is shrinking as he becomes more and more invisible to the people around him who are all too busy to pay him much attention. Only a game from his early childhood saves him from disappearing altogether and we learn how important it is to be happy in your own company and to like yourself as well as to be loved and to be listened to and given the time of day. It's a lovely philosophical story about how we all need to be noticed and nurtured but how we also take responsibility for our own happiness in life.

Music Staff at Parents' Evenings

Mrs Sapkota (Year 6) and Mrs Warn (Years 3-5) will be available on Sunday 21st October but not on Tuesday 23rd. If you are not attending the Sunday evening and would like to discuss your child's music progress, please don't hesitate to contact us to make a separate appointment.

Lower School Harvest Festival

Well done to the Lower School for a fantastic Harvest Festival. The children sang with enthusiasm and spoke beautifully. They were keen to raise money for the Kids for Kids Charity and are excited to have enough money to buy 6 goats for a family in Darfur. Thank you to everyone for supporting us.

bringing in a height chart which he has had hanging in his airing cupboard at home for over 26 years and which has plotted the growth of his own two boys and now his grandchildren. He explained how, as a head of English for many years, he used to tell the story to Year Sevens on entering secondary school to comfort them when they had seemingly "shrunk" as they joined at the bottom of a school full of older, more experienced people.

story was well-chosen and amusing and the His

children's faces were a pleasure to watch as the story unfolded. Before he left the school after assembly, John was politely mobbed by fans who wanted to talk about the story he had told.

you would like to tell a story in one of our If

Guest Storyteller assemblies, please do contact me at school. I have not yet been able to fill all of the slots we have available and would love to hear from any volunteers. Ms Case
