WRITING PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION (WPA) WORK

Positions Held Writing Program Research Assistant. (August 2011-present) I work closely with the Writing Program Director and Assistant Director to implement research projects that include a range of data collection practices (i.e., interviews, observations, focus groups, surveys) that assess the professionalization of the University of Arizona Writing Program. Writing Program Advisory Council Representative. (January 2011-January 2012) I served as the English Graduate Unions representative to the University of Arizonas Writing Program Advisory Council, bringing the unions concerns to the meetings and reporting back to the union about important changes to writing program policies. Curriculum Development Developmental Writing Course Pilot. (August 2012-present) I am working with seven instructors at Pima Community College to implement a grant-supported Developmental Writing course. Pima has a two-semester sequence for first-year writing, and this course is designed to move students who assessed below the requirements for the first-semester sequence successfully into the second semester of the sequence. We have instituted an additional studio component so students receive more one-on-one time with instructors, and we instructors meet once a week to design common assignments, participate in grade norming, and shape the course. Graduate Teacher Training Curriculum Redesign. (September 2011-present) I worked with three other University of Arizona teaching assistants to research the University of Arizonas teacher training program (preceptorship) by conducting surveys of students who have gone

through the program and by researching other universities graduate teacher training programs. We were invited to speak to the faculty supervisors who teach preceptorship, and many of the suggested changes are in the process of being implemented into the revised curriculum. WIRE Redesign. (August 2012) My English 101 curriculum was chosen to be featured on our course materials page, WIRE, for future instructors to model/adapt. Event Coordination University of Arizonas National Day on Writing Event. (October 2012) With my fellow research assistant, I organized the University of Arizonas first inaugural celebration of the NCTEs National Day on Writing. We had over 650 students and 15 instructors participate. I secured funding for the event, created and organized all activities (which included a Digital Literacy Narratives Booth, Rsum Workshopping Booth, and Stylistics for Snacks activities), coordinated meetings for volunteers, and ran the event. Presentations for WPA Work 2012 2012 2011 Invited speaker. National Day on Writing. University of Arizona Writing Program General Meeting. Tucson, AZ. 15 August. Invited speaker.
