Unwrap the Magic

A Benefit Performance for Pathfinders for Autism and St. Elizabeth School starring Grammy award-winning, two-time Tony Award Nominee and Dukes of Hazzard star Tom Wopat on Tuesday, December 11, at Kraushaar Auditorium, on the Goucher College campus. The curtain on this one night only production goes at up 7:30 and will feature an entertaining mix of seasonal and Broadway favorites performed by Wopat and his eight piece band of New York City Players. The benefit performance will also include special appearances by local performers from the Friends School Chamber Choir, the Susquehanna Youth Ballet and the elite dancers of the EMC Performance Arts Studio. A pre-show VIP reception hosted by Tom Wopat and B.J. Surhoff, President of Pathfinders for Autism and Oriole Hall of Fame player, will begin at 6:00PM at the performance site. While known by many as Luke Duke from the 1980s hit TV series "The Dukes of Hazzard", Wopat's expressive and flexible baritone singing voice has made him a Broadway star for over 30 years. Among his many Broadway credits, Wopat performed leading roles in the Tony Award-winning "City of Angels", "Guys and Dolls", "Chicago" and "42nd Street". He received a Tony Award nomination and shared a Grammy Award in 1999 for creating the role of Frank Butler in the

Broadway revival of "Annie Get Your Gun", opposite Bernadette Peters. He received another Tony Award nomination in 2005 for leading actor in "A Catered Affair". Most recently he created leading roles in the 2010 musical "Sondheim on Sondheim" and in the 2011 musical, "Catch Me If You Can". Wopat has also long been a successful recording artist with many albums to his credit, including "A Little Bit Closer", "Don't Look Back", and "Learning to Love"; which all provided chart climbing singles during his country-pop days. More recently, Wopat's recordings have successfully taken a different musical tack towards jazz infused Broadway selections and standards with his release of "In The Still of the Night" and "Tom Wopat Sings Harold Arlen: A Dissertation on the State of Bliss". His latest release, "Consider it Swung", features a swinging set of standards and fresh takes on various songs of Frank Sinatra, Blood Sweat & Tears, and Joni Mitchell. Following up those successes will be a new as yet unnamed recording slated for a late 2012 release featuring more of the unique swinging jazz that has become Wopat's signature style. Kraushaar Auditorium is located on the Goucher College campus at 1021 Dulaney Valley Road, Towson, MD 21204.
