I INTRODUCTION Philippine International Development, Inc.

. (PHIDCO) is a company whose primary activity is in the processing and export of coconut products. Its export products consist of crude coconut oil, refined bleach deodorized (rbd) coconut oil, Cochin coconut oil and copra expeller cake. Locally, it markets it Washington brand of cooking oil, Datu laundry bars and Viva detergent bars. The local sale comprises a very small portion of its total sales. Aside from its manufacturing activities it leases a commercial as well as warehouse spaces. The company was formed in 1959 and took over the physical facilities of the existing Wee Kun Coprax Industry and Co., Inc. It is all Filipino owned corporations and has no ties with any foreign owned companies. Its copra crushing is rated at 375 metric tons per day. Its physical refineries are rated at 250 metric tons per day. Soap making facilities are rated at about 100 metric tons per day. The fat splitting capacity is 125 metric tons per day. Their products include coconut based products (crude coconut oil; cochin coconut oil; refined, bleached, deodorized coconut oil; low color, low acid coconut oil; coconut fatty acid distillate; copra expeller cake), distilled and fractionated fatty acids, refined glycerine, soap products (soap base soap noodles or soap chips of varying oil blends; crude glycerine) Coconut based products are normally traded under rules set by NIOP (National Institute of Oilseeds Products) or FOSFA International (Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Association Ltd., Copra expeller cake is normally traded under GAFTA (Grain and Feed Trade Association) rules. Support facilities of PHIDCO consist of 1 unit copra warehouse 6000 sq. meter, 1 unit copra expeller warehouse 1200 sq. meter, 1 unit warehouse 1500 and 3500 sq. meter, 2 units steel storage tank of 2600 metric ton each, 2 units stainless storage tank 2700 metric ton. Power is presently drawn from the NPC Mindanao grid thru the local cooperative. Monthly average consumption is about 400,000 kW-hr. The company has standby generators with total capacity of about 4.5 MW. Pier with 12.0 m draft and 86 m berth length capable to take in 40-50,000 metric ton DWT ocean going vessels, plant site of 4 hectares within the city proper along the seashore zoned for heavy industries, the companys employ about 100 regular workers. It operates its oil mill on 3 shifts of 8 hours each day. Operation starts since founding. At times when copra supply is low, operations would be curtailed. Normally, it would operate on an average 25 days a month, 12 months a year. Nonoperation time is used for services and maintenance of machinery.
