January 25, 2013 Dear Families, February 1 will mark the end of the first term and I am very pleased to say it has been a tremendous year here at Wolfville School! We have reasonable class sizes from Primary through to grade 8 which allows staff to work very effectively with your students so that they are able to enjoy success. Class size has and continues to be a priority for the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board and it is important for families to understand that during difficult financial times our Board has maintained this priority. From time to time we have items in our newsletter that you may have questions about or need more information, feel free to pick up the phone and contact our school office. Our administrative team are happy to answer your questions or point you in the right direction! Finally, I want to stress the importance of effective communication and the partnership between home and school. I truly believe that each family wants what is best for their child; staff also wants the best for your children. Sometimes when times get busy it is easy to lose sight of this important fact, I urge all partners to keep this idea in the forefront, keep the lines of communication open and work cooperatively to help students find success and to find solutions to any barrios we may encounter. It is a pleasure working with each of you!
Steve Keddy, Principal SAC NEWS There has been a great deal of SAC activity in January: The next regular SAC meeting will be held on February 12, 2013 @ 7pm in the Family Studies Room. Agenda items will include: (i) a briefing on Instructional Time and the Schools Daily Schedule and, (ii) Renovation Planning.

The School Board has asked the SAC to comment on proposed changes to Policies and Administrative Procedures regarding Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Checks. If you would like to review the proposed changes, there are paper copies available in the school office. Please provide any feedback to WolfvilleSAC@gmail.com by February 6, 2013. This will be discussed at the next SAC meeting.

In December 2012, we indicated that Wolfville School received funding for a consultation process, referred to as scoping to develop a business case for a future renovation project. The SAC is in the process of clarifying the procedure. Community consultation is important to the SAC. In that vein, a special community meeting will be held at which time our school board representatives will provide a briefing to explain the process, how it impacts future renovation funding, and answer any questions that you may have. In order for the Board and the SAC to prepare, please forward any questions to WolfvilleSAC@gmail.com.

On behalf of your School Advisory Council; we are pleased to invite all interested community members to an information meeting regarding future renovations to Wolfville School: When: Thursday, February 7, 2013 7:00 to 8:30 pm Where: Wolfville School Library Child-minding will be available at the school. The meetings purpose is to receive a briefing from the school board on the process, timelines and requirements of the scoping project, and to discuss issues related to the renovation that you would like considered. If you are unable to attend the meeting, but would like to share your comments, please forward them to wolfvillesac@gmail.com by February 4th, with the subject line Scoping Process.

Our next SAC meeting will be on February 12 pm.

L.I.F.E. (Learning Is For Everyone)
At Wolfville School, we believe that all students should be able to participate fully in school. We are pleased to have a LIFE benevolent fund to assist with specific student needs related to learning. This fund is used to ensure that no student is prevented from participating fully in their classes or school-based experiences because of their financial situation. It is only through the generous financial support of local businesses and residents that the LIFE fund can exist. Heres how you can help: Provide us with your business card and for only $20 we will include it in our monthly newsletter. Its low-cost advertising for you and the proceeds go to a great cause! Call Mrs. Davison or Mrs. Fox in the school office at 542-6055, or drop by with your business card. If you dont have a business but would like to make a donation, that would be great too. Thank you in advance for your support.
