2 Marks Questions
Snapshot of a Dog (Prose)
Q: Mention the two most important qualities of
Rex (or) What are the two qualities of Rex
that Thurber thinks makes him an excep-
tional dog?
A: Rex is big and muscular and beautifully
made. Although he is a tremendous fighter,
he never starts fights. He has never lost his
dignity even in doing hard tasks and thus
has been noble throughout his life. He never
runs after automobiles. He is an expert in
killing ants. These qualities make Rex an
exceptional dog, according to Thurber.
Q: How was Rex different from other dogs? (or)
'Rex was tremendous fighter. But he was
different from other dogs in several ways.'
What were they?
A: Rex never lost his dignity even when he was
trying to achieve challenging tasks. He
never gave up trying and nothing was
impossible for him. He was noble and a
tremendous fighter. But he never started
fights. He never went for the throat of other
dogs. Instead, he used to catch hold of other
ear, but once he caught it, he could hold it on
for hours. He never bit a person but barked
only at prowlers. He never for those things
which were of no use to him. He was a fight-
er but not a killer. Thus, Rex was quite dif-
ferent from other dogs.
Snake (Poetry)
Q: How does the poet behave when he sees
the snake at the water trough?
A: The poet sees the snake and notices that he
has come to the water trough much ahead
of him. He shows hospitality and treats the
snake as his guest. Therefore, he allows him
to drink first. But he, later throws a log at the
snake in order to kill him following the voice
of his education.
Q: "And truly I was most afraid
But even so, honoured still more."
Why did the poet feel honoured in spite of
being afraid?
A: The poet felt honoured in spite of being
afraid because the snake came there on a
hot day to drink water but not to cause harm
to the poet. Eventhough it was a poisonous
snake, it simply drank water and went into
the deep crack in the wall.
Fire in the Forest (Prose)
Q: How did the deer spot danger? Why was
she on the alert all the time?
A: The deer's ears constantly flicker this way
and that to bring them news.
Their large eyes always stare into
the shadows and the stripy tigery
grass and their nostrils will be
trembling in order to spot any
danger. The hind was on the alert
all the time because of her fear of
enemies like tigers and panthers.
Q: Why did the deer stay back even
when the other animals went away? What
did she do later?
A: The fawn was not strong enough to move.
So he and his mother stayed in the pool
cooling their burns and drinking the tepid
water. Later, when he became strong
enough, they moved into the unburned for-
est. They soon joined the herd.

Q: In what way was Vinoba Bhave's mission a
pilgrimage? How did it differ from traditional

A: A traditional pilgrim-

holy place or a
shrine. Service and
self-purification are
its tenets. Vinobaji

ing the poor. Thus, Vinoba's pilgrimage is
different from the traditional ones. it is a
unique one.
Q: What is the relevance of Vinoba Bhave's
message to the modern world?
A: Vinoba Bhave says that progress should
