HW #4

Homework Assignment # 4
Due: Monday, 2012 February 13, 16:00pm Instructions: 1. Please ensure that your name and ID number are clearly written on your assignment. 2. Please submit your assignment before 16:00 pm on the due date. The assignment box is located in the ETLC Atrium (second floor), and is marked by E E 238 B1. Assignment Problems: Problem 1. (10 points) (Lathi 2.3-4) Find the unit impulse response of a system specified by the equation (D2 + 6D + 9)y(t) = (2D + 9)f (t). Problem 2. (15 points) Find the response of the system represented by (D2 + 4D + 3)y(t) = (D + 1)f (t) if the initial conditions are y(0 ) = 2, y(0 ) = 4 and the input f (t) is u(t). Problem 3. (20 points) (Lathi 2.6-2) Explain, with reasons, whether the LTIC systems described by the following equations are asymptotically stable, marginally stable, or unstable. (b) (D + 1)(D2 + 9)y(t) = (2D + 9)f (t); (a) (D + 1)(D2 + 2D + 5)2 y(t) = f (t); (c) (D + 1)(D2 + 9)2 y(t) = (2D + 9)f (t); (d) (D2 + 1)(D2 + 4)(D2 + 9)y(t) = 3Df (t). Problem 4. (10 points) (Lathi 3.1-3) For the signals f (t) and x(t) depicted in Figure 1, find the component of the form f (t) contained in x(t). In other words, find the optimum value of c in the approximation x(t) cf (t) so that the error signal energy is minimum. What is the error signal energy? f (t) 1 0 1 t 1 0 1 t x(t)
