Club News
Meeting News:
28 SKW members and 1 guest (Don Ward) attended the November SKW meeting which John Nicholas called to order at 9:13 am. John asked the membership for approval of the December meeting minutes as published in the newsletter and the membership voted approved. Gordon Beehler announced the treasury report as $965 cash with $332 of that amount designated as Library fund. Approval of Gordons report was given by the membership present. John sent around the yearly refreshment volunteer list asking for volunteers. There are still 7 months that need a volunteer. John then talked about needing volunteers for the clubs monthly demonstrations and again mentioned the sign-up sheets on the club table on the north wall. There was no old business to discuss. There was no new business to discuss. Show & Tell had 12 participants with Greg Tompkins winning the gift certificate. Jim Orange won the monthly challenge with his sphere. Jim Orange again asked for a volunteer to help with the Library. (still needed) The Bring Back Raffle items were won by: Leroy Cole, Gordon Beehler, and Derryl Williams. John Nicholas and Jim Orange did the Dec. demonstration on snowmen, honey dippers, and scoops. John also told members that they would be asking members to participate in the demonstrations at future meetings. Phil Heinz brought up that he thought that the club should provide safety glasses for the turners asked to participate in the demoes and John replied that he has already purchased some safety goggles for that purpose.

Happy New Year! Who has been out in the shop turning? Whose shop has been too cold? Well, those are one of the items we will be talking about at our January Meeting. How do we keep turning in the Kansas Winter? I guess we can be like some members and go south for the cold weather. Some of us like the cold weather. Pheasant Hunting and Deer Hunting are a draw for some of us to stay here. Ice fishing when it really gets cold. Some of us get to go to work, so moving south isn't a good option. So having heat in your shop is another way. What have you turned since our last meeting? Any honey dippers or Snow men or scoops? Bring them or an example in for Show N Tell! Our Demo this month will be about Bowl Turning! How do you mount your blank? What options do you have? Why you should use this method or that method. What is a jamb chuck? How do you turn the screw holes off if you use a faceplate? And more! Join -- Jim and John for a good session on starting and turning a bowl! John Nicholas
Next months meeting will be February 16, 2013.
