The Impact of Sequestration Cuts

March 1 cuts could hurt those already on the edge
Automatic budget cuts are set to take affect on Friday, March 1 if Congress doesn't reach a budget agreement. Cuts would impact discretionary programs including: WIC (nutrition program for women and children) TEFAP administration (emergency food assistance program) Meals on Wheels, and more. Some of the people Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes serve rely on these programs to supplement their nutritional needs. Any cuts could seriously undermine our community and nation's safety net for the most vulnerable residents.

Join Us for Empty Bowls Grand Finale

KLF partners with local elementary on April 26
You're invited to an evening of food, local art and the simple joy of eating together during the final Empty Bowls event in our 2013 series. Join us at Prairie Ridge Elementary School, 2294 S. 9th St., on Friday, April 26 from 5:30-7:30 pm. This is an opportunity to enjoy a simple community meal as the students display their handmade ceramic bowls, meant to symoblize all of the empty bowls and plates local children face every day. There will also be a silent auction of professionally made ceramic pieces! A $5 donation per household is suggested, which includes a meal for everyone and one student-made ceramic bowl to take home.
