Support grows for nuclear installation after Kalams visit

Energy Sector Featured TNM A P J Abdul Kalam Tamil Nadu Days after a visit by former president APJ Abdul Kalam to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu, the support for the government's plans to finish the construction on site has grown.

Kalam has assuered protesters that plant is safe and does not face a threat from Tsunami. He expressed satisfaction over the safety measures put in place by operators at the plant. Many are now questioning the views of S P Udayakumar, a lead man behind the protests in the area.

I Am Kalam To Be Screened In London Film Festival

Featured Entertainment A P J Abdul Kalam India Director Nila Madhab Panda's forthcoming children's movie I Am Kalam, has been selected to be screened at the esteemed London Film Festival, which is starting next month. The movie deals with the story of a poor boy, who is a great fan of former president of India, A P J Abdul Kalam. He is so inspired by Kalam that he starts referring himself as Kalam.

On May 12th, the movie had its world premiere at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival at the Marche du Film section. I Am Kalam is set to release in India by December.

"Since he is not in Delhi, we are waiting for him to return so that we can apologise personally to Dr. Kalam," the airline said.

Kochi, July 23 : Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam has said he is yet to receive an apology from Continental Airlines for frisking him at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in April this year. "I''ve not yet received it. Whatever I had to say, I''ve already said it," said Kalam. The statement came a day after Continental Airlines had issued a public apology for subjecting Kalam to a security frisking at the airport prior to his boarding a US-bound flight of Continental Airlines on April 21.

Abdul Kalam by Continental Airlines and had issued a show cause notice to the airline on July 9. The governments statement came a day after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) filed an FIR against the Continental Airlines.

Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said the BCAS had conducted an inquiry into the incident and issued a show cause notice to the airlines.

The apology came a day after angry protests in India's Parliament over the "humiliating" treatment meted out to Kalam. India's Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told parliament Tuesday that his ministry had demanded the airline explain the frisking of Kalam in violation of guidelines.

New Delhi, July 21 : After slapping a show cause notice on the US-based Continental Airlines, which frisked former president APJ Abdul Kalam at the IGI airport in New Delhi in April This year, the government has now decided to lodge a case against the airliner.

The case would be lodged by the countrys nodal agency on air security, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under the Aircraft Act. As per reports, the case would be registered under Section 11 (A) of the Act for wilfully violating an airport circular.

New Delhi - India has ordered a probe and issued a show-cause notice to the US-based Continental Airlines as to why its staff frisked the country's former president APJ Abdul Kalam, officials said Tuesday. India's Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told parliament that his ministry had demanded the airline explain the frisking of Kalam in violation of guidelines. Patel said he would not only take action against the airline, but would also speak to the External Affairs Ministry to raise the issue diplomatically.

Former president Kalam frisked at IGI airport

Featured A P J Abdul Kalam India New Delhi New Delhi, July 21 : Former president APJ Abdul Kalam was recently frisked by an international airline at Delhi''s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Kalam was travelling to the US about a month ago on Continental Airlines when the incident happened.

Sources at the airport said Continental Airlines employees frisked Kalam in what is called the second line of security check. He was made to take off his shoes and asked to wait before being frisked.
