Thank you to Ray Bright

Ray Bright had a substantial impact on Potrero Hill during a long and productive life. He served as president of the Boosters decades ago, when it was known as the Potrero Boosters and Merchants Association; and he developed the 87 condominiums of Victoria Mews, a controversial project at the time that may now be, in some ways, a positive model for the next wave of higher-density development on the Hill. When Ray passed away on August 31 of last year, at the age of 80, he ensured that he would continue to have a substantial impact on Potrero Hill for years to come. In his will, he made a bequest of $20,000 to the Boosters. We received that bequest early this month. The funds will go toward the establishment of an operating reserve for the organization (our first in our 86 year history!), and the advancement of the Boosters ambitious plans for neighborhood planning and support of public transportation and open space. Ray Brights gift is expanding the capacity of the Boosters, at a time when that capacity is needed more than ever. We thank him for his service over the years, and for thinking of us in his estate planning.

The Boosters Dinner: May 22 at the California Culinary Academy

The annual Boosters Dinner, the most social Booster meeting of the year, is all set! Tuesday night, May 22 at 5.30 pm, is the date and time, with dinner served at 7:00; and we are very excited to be returning to Technique, the California Culinary Academys restaurant on 16th Street at Rhode Island. This is a full catered threecourse dinner, prepared by the California Culinary Academy, with wine donated by local merchants. Heres the menu: 5:30 pm - No host bar 7.00 pm - Dinner is served, with complimentary wine Family style appetizers and Caesar salad Choice of entrees: Spring lamb stew on polenta Pine nut-olive crusted Halibut, with fingerling potatoes and asparagus Roast chicken with herb gnocchi, baby vegetables and pan reduction Polenta or risotto with assorted vegetables This is always a fun event, where we install the new years Executive Committee quickly and efficiently (with City Attorney Dennis Herrera doing the honor of swearing us in) and recognize some of the hardest working among us for what they do in our community. Its a great chance to bring a neighbor and show them what the Boosters are all about!
This event sells out every year, and this year, theres only 120 seats available. So we are sure to sell out in advance! You can

At Tuesdays Boosters meeting, March 27 at 7 pm at the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House: Well have our second visit from the team of architects and others designing the large apartment complexes planned for the Concourse site and 1 Henry Adams Street. In January, we got a first look at the site plan, now we get a preview of building designs. Also, well talk about Hooper Street (currently dominated by self-storage and truck rentals) with developer Dan Murphy. The site adjoins California College of Arts, and development there might lead to a greener Hooper Street, connected to Mission Bays open space. Dan will present two concepts for mixed use commercial buildings, along the lines of the American Industrial Center on Third Street; one of the options requires some changes to the planning code.
Bring Your Own Big Wheel, April 8

The Citys inter-agency board in charge of street closures has unanimously approved the 2012 Bring Your Own Big Wheel race, now set for Easter Sunday, April 8th, from 4-6 pm at the top of Vermont Street next to McKinley Square Park. Were looking forward to a crowded, but manageable, race again this year! To participate in this years event, racers must fill out a waiver, which is available at www.bringyourownbigwheel.com.

The Executive Committee of the Boosters step up every year to make the Boosters more visible in the neighborhood, and to make the neighborhood more visible in the City. There's much more to come in the future, as the membership of the Boosters grows, and as the City looks to its southeast neighborhoods to solve more and more of its problems.
