Presenter Hello, the time is 20 past 8 and this is Oldham Community radio news. Good morning, Im Beth Moore. The main headlines today, Tesco comment on the horse meat scandal, are EBCs the way to go? And can dogs really understand the human mind? (15 secs)

Presenter The supermarket chain Tesco has recently come under fire due to their products containing horse meat. Horse meat traces have been found in the Tesco own brand burgers and this has angered members of the public. After further tests carried out by DEFRA it was found that it wasnt only Tescos products that were contaminated, both Birds Eyes readymade meals and Ikeas famous meatballs were also found to contain horse meat. Our News Correspondent Connor Greenwood-Dean spoke to a Tescos manager and asked him what he thinks about the horse meat enquiry. (30 secs) News Correspondent Thank you for your time .. Presenter In other news today, the government recently proposed a new education scheme called the English Baccalaureate Certificate that will replace the current GCSEs and are set to launch in 2015. This new scheme will focus on the 3 core subjects, English, Maths and the 3 sciences with other subjects like History, Geography and the languages being introduced in 2016. According to the National Union of Teachers they are not happy with the changes and that they would rather stick with the GCSEs. Our education correspondent Hasnain Zahoor spoke to a representative of the NUT, Philippa Gell and asked her about their views on the suggested changes. Presenter Now, did you ever think that your dog would be able to understand you? Well, new research conducted by Psychologist Dr Julianne Kaminski, a lecturer at the University of Portsmouth suggests that dogs can understand the way a human thinks. She found that dogs were more likely to disobey orders such as dont eat the food when lights were turned off as they know that humans cant see well in the dark. So, what do you think? Our Correspondent Zia Khan took to the streets of Oldham and asked the public whether they think their dogs can understand them. (30 secs)
