You will write a personal essay based on our work this week in Unit 5. Write about an important event in your life that changed you deeply. Structure: Paragraph 1 Introductory paragraph (attention-getter, main idea, guide) Paragraph 2 before the event (what I used to be like) Paragraph 3 the event (what happened) Paragraph 4 after the event (how I changed) Huge mistakes in grammar, spelling and punctuation will be penalized heavily, especially if we went over these common errors in class. Your essay must include: - topic sentences - supporting sentences - proper formatting (indenting paragraphs) - transition words that provide more information about a subtopic - transition words that show the sequence of events - use of conjunctions/transition words - support of facts with examples - use of direct and indirect speech - an attention-getter in the first paragraph - cause-and-effect sentences
