What is the Fishin Buddies! Hike a Thon?

On Saturday, June 1, 2013, Fishin Buddies! will host the FB Hike-a-thon with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County at the Sand Ridge Nature Center in South Holland, IL. The FB Hike-a-thon is a one of a kind event for the Chicago land area a wonderful live and fast paced outdoor experience. The FB Hike-a-thon is a fund-raiser to benefit local Chicago youth based conservation programs. The event is in partnership with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. There are over 100 local conservation organizations, schools, businesses and clubs participating. The FB Hike-a-thon is a great way to get outdoors and explore the local Forest Preserve Trails and support a great cause. It is a great event for your organization to get your name out to hundreds Northwest Indiana outdoorsmen and their families.

Who is FISHIN BUDDIES! & How do we make this successful?

Founded in 1991 FISHIN BUDDIES! is a not-for-profit conservation organization headquartered in the Washington Heights neighborhood of South Chicago. FISHIN BUDDIES! has over 20 years of experience hosting large events and developing programs that have touched thousands of inner city families. Our strategic ongoing partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies including the Illinois Broadband Fund, Forest Preserve District of Cook County, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the IL Dept. of Natural Resources and many others. The organizers of this event have several decades of combined experience in environmental education and event management. FISHIN BUDDIES! started a grassroots movement with our 900 active members. Building off this momentum we will develop and implement a massive professional social media strategy that incorporates five key elements Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogs and an urban marketing team.

Goals of the FB Hike A Thon

Goal 1. Serves as the launch event for the FB Outdoor Assistant APP this Fishin Buddies program brings together schools, local small businesses, government agencies, technology and nature with an innovative approach to merging the missions of these living ecosystems. Goal 2. Raise funds for local conservation educational programs focusing on at -risk youth. Fishin Buddies! believes in the emotional and psychological restorative powers of the outdoors. We believe it is important to expose this philosophy to children whos ideal of the Great Outdoors as being the grassless, glass strewn, debris filled, concrete and steel playgrounds of urban America. Goal 3. Expose families to the wonders of local public recreational lands and activities. Sand Ridge Nature Center features exhibits on the natural and cultural history of the Calumet region. Youll find native wildlife including birds of prey, snakes, turtles, and fish, and a Kids Corner with hands -on activities. Only 15% of the area residents knows of its existence, we seek to flip this statistic on its head!
