VOLUNTEER POSITION VACANCY

TITLE Volunteer Resources Manager Florida National Guard Child & Youth Program

MAJOR OBJECTIVE The existence of a Volunteer Resource Manager will increase the effectiveness of the FLARNG Child & Youth Program in their respective regions by increasing our accessibility/visibility within the local National Guard community while also enabling us to better leverage the talents and resources within the region.

QUALIFICATIONS The Volunteer Resource Manager should have: A minimum of 3 years of volunteer or professionally equivalent experience (or a combination of the two) which includes event planning, community relations, motivating others, and/or resource development. Some college level coursework is preferred. Leadership experience is a plus. Knowledge of the deployment cycle and military lifestyle a plus. The demonstrated ability to make and honor a two year commitment. Some examples of this include (but are not limited to): having served on a board of directors, being an active and contributing member of a civic organization, having completed at least 2 years of college, having volunteered within the same organization for at least 2 years, or served in any branch the United States Military. A desire and temperament to work with children. Prior experience working with children is a plus, but not necessary. Strong communication skills. The ability to pass a national background check. A valid drivers license. Reliable transportation, car insurance, and medical insurance. Basic computer and email skills and access to the same.

RESPONSIBILITIES The Volunteer Resources Manager will serve as a liaison between the FLARNG Child & Youth Program and the communities within their region. Key responsibilities will include: 1. 1-2 briefings in a 2 month period to the organization (s) of your choosing (i.e.: Rotary Club, Boys & Girls Club, School personnel, Exchange Club) a power point and promotional materials will be provided to you. 2. Being present at and recruiting additional one time use volunteers for special events as they are held in your area. Being the local contact for said events. 3. Properly preparing event volunteers for work to include assisting the CYP Staff in executing background check responsibilities. 4. Leveraging community resources as needed. 5. Speaking favorably and knowledgeably about the program and the needs of our military youth and families whenever possible. Resources will be provided to you. 6. Participating in monthly conference calls whenever possible.

ORIENTATION/TRAINING 1. The VRM will be required to attend a one-time only intake training/orientation, scheduled for 9/13/13-9/15/13 at Camp Blanding in Starke, FL. Accommodations and meals will be provided. The purpose of the orientation is as follows: Program Acculturation CPR training (required) Child Abuse Prevention Training (required) Fingerprinting / Background Checks (required) Leadership and Training Activities 2. The VRM (and their spouses/families) will be invited to an Appreciation Dinner/Award Ceremony at the end of each commitment year. 3. A monthly conference call will be conducted. The LCYPC, CYPC, and all VRMs across the state will participate. There is an expectation that VRMs would make every effort to attend these calls regularly.

TIME AND PLACE VRMs will work remotely within the community. When office support is needed (fax, copier, etc), you may occasionally visit the Family Assistance Center in your region. This information will be provided to you by the LCYPC. It is estimated that the responsibilities of this commitment will take 5-10 hours per month to execute, with the higher concentration occurring during months when an event is planned for your area.

COMMITMENT Because of both the need for consistency within the program and the initial investment required by the FLNG (CPR, background checks, etc), VRMs are asked to make a 2

year commitment to the organization and its mission. That being said, we respect that this is a volunteer position and fully expect that there will be times during which you are unavailable (vacations, work commitments, etc).
