How to Download Music from a Computer to a Cell Phone

Instructions
1. Email Transfer

Create an email with your personal email account and attach the music you want to download to the message. Address the email to your cell phone's email account; the account will probably be "your cell phone number@your cellular service provider's website." The name of the email account is normally found on the phone info screen on your device.

Send the email to your cell phone. Your phone will ring to alert you that the message has arrived. To open emails with attachments, your cellular service subscription must include full data service: Internet and email, picture mail and text messaging.

Go to the screen that allows you to view messages on your cell phone. Open the message and the device will attempt to log on to the Internet so that you can view the message. The log-on will be successful if you have full data service and a strong cell phone signal.

Download the attachments to your cell phone.

Store the attachments in the folder where music is kept on your phone. You can use the songs as ring tones.

2. USB Data Transfer

Purchase a USB data transfer kit from your cell phone manufacturer's website or any store that sells electronics (Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart). The USB data transfer kit includes a USB data cable and synchronization software that will configure your phone and computer so they are accessible to one another.

Install the synchronization software on your computer and start it.

Attach your cell phone to your computer by inserting the USB data cable into the appropriate ports on each device. Configure your cell phone with the computer by following the instructions in the synchronization software.

Open the directory where you store music files on your computer with the synchronization software.

Select the songs you want to download to your cell phone and click on "OK"; the specific command varies depending on your computer's operating system and the brand of synchronization software you buy. Once the download is finished, you can access the music files on your cell phone.

3. Memory Card Transfer

Buy a USB memory card reader that is compatible with your cell phone's memory card. You can find them at electronics stores and department stores that sell electronics.

Turn off the cell phone and take out the memory card. It's typically located in or near the battery compartment. Insert the memory card into the memory card reader.

Insert the USB memory card reader into one of the computer's USB ports.

Open the folder where you store music on your computer, then open the cell phone memory card folder.

Click on the songs you want to transfer to highlight them. Drag them over to the memory card folder.

Remove the memory card from the USB memory card reader, insert it into the cell phone and turn on the phone. The songs should now be located in the folder where music is kept on the phone.

Tips & Warnings

The music you download to your phone will have to be in a format that the phone can use, normally MP3.
