District 9470
THURSDAY, 11 JUNE 2009

“Welcome to Rotary ... Things go better

when you're here”
Please remember  that  we will  be voting  on  the  Carl Riedel  Award  this  coming
week and your vote counts.

    VOLUNTEER NEEDED
We  need  someone  to  partner  Graeme  on  the  morning  after  Handover  at  the
Sunday  Market.    The market is  a  key Club function and  needs two  Rotarians  to
operate  effectively.    If  anyone  knows  they  aren’t  going  to  Handover  or  aren’t
planning  to  overdo  it  then  you  need  to  put  your  hand  up  before  I  just  pick  a
name.

Rotary International District 9800.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you so very much for your
generous donation to the Rotary District 9800 Bushfire Recovery Fund.
This fund was established after the devastating Black Saturday bushfires
on 7th February this year.
(snip)
Your donation will be fully utilised in rebuilding the communities and
lives of the victims who were so harshly treated by the worst bushfires
our country has ever witnessed. All funds will be spent on projects, with
not a single dollar being spent on management or administration as these
tasks are selflessly undertaken by Rotarians who are committed to giving
“Service Above Self ”

Again, my heartfelt thanks to you for your contribution. It will make a

difference.
Kind regards (signed)
Jim Studebaker District Governor

Guest Speaker - Gemma Sisia - School of

St Jude

In the Roman Catholic Church, St Jude is the

patron saint of desperate cases and lost
causes. The School of St Jude isnʼt a Church
school but Gemmaʼs Catholic background gave
her the perfect name for her new school. The desperate cases are literally
thousands of students who qualify for free tuition at the school by living in
a house with less than two rooms, dirt floors and no windows.

The school is supported by generous donors (including Rotarians) and

hard working volunteers.

Gemma gave us a brief version of her own story and an overview of the
school. Itʼs always great to see such good results.
