How do you define a Research?

Research is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict and control the observed phenomenon. Research involves inductive and deductive methods (Babbie, 1998). Inductive methods analyze the observed phenomenon and identify the general principles, structures, or processes underlying the phenomenon observed; deductive methods verify the hypothesized principles through observations. The purposes are different: one is to develop explanations, and the other is to test the validity of the explanations. One thing that we have to pay attention to research is that the heart of the research is not on statistics, but the thinking behind the research. How we really want to find out, how we build arguments about ideas and concepts, and what evidence that we can support to persuade people to accept our arguments. Gall, Borg and Gall (1996) proposed four types of knowledge that research contributed to education as follows: 1. Description: Results of research can describe natural or social phenomenon, such as its form, structure, activity, change over time, relationship to other phenomena. The descriptive function of research relies on instrumentation for measurement and observations. The descriptive research results in our understanding of what happened. It sometimes produces statistical information about aspects of education. 2. Prediction: Prediction research is intended to predict a phenomenon that will occur at time Y from information at an earlier time X. In educational research, researchers have been engaged in: o Acquiring knowledge about factors that predict students' success in school and in the world of work o Identifying students who are likely to be unsuccessful so that prevention programs can be instituted. 3. Improvement: This type of research is mainly concerned with the effectiveness of intervention. The research approach include experimental design and evaluation research. 4. Explanation: This type research subsumes the other three: if the researchers are able to explain an educational phenomenon, it means that they can

describe, can predict its consequences, and know how to intervene to change those consequences. Why is Research important to human kind?

We learn the theoretical part while studying any subject but to have an intense depth, research and development is highly required. It ensures valid information and in depth analysis of the subject we study. A research department has the access to the various dimensions of knowledge, expertise and skills of that department, also the facility of modern research equipment. Research helps in explaining things with a practical vision and the study is completed faster. To determine the best, independent view on an object is highly appreciated. Consumer choices are influenced by the various researches practiced. It summarizes the valuable information for effective understanding. It entails an organised review and assessment to avoid future conflicts. Lastly, we can say that prior research on any given subject is necessary for imparting knowledge.

What are the purposes and goald of research?

...Understand and interpret research reports when you read them, indentifying their major elements and underlying methodologies. ...Plan and carry out your own research projects in the field of TESL and language acquisition. The main role and purpose of research is to help plan and gather information on a certain topic. Research helps to monitor something before carrying it out and also helps to discover new things by gathering and looking out for what others would have done. Research helps to gather and explore more into a certain topic which helps to backup your opinions with the findings.

How do you characterized a good research?

A research proposal is the presentation of an idea that you wish to pursue. A good research proposal presumes that you have already thought about your project and have devoted some time and effort in gathering information, reading, and then organizing your thoughts. A research proposal is NOT a project to be thrown together in one night with ideas off the top of your head. Thus, one might say that the research proposal is a second step, following the selection of a broad topic. The actual proposal will indicate what analytical question you wish to address. The foundation of a good research paper is a good research question. Just a tree needs a good root system to grow to be strong, a good research paper needs a good analytical question.

How are research and problem deferentiate?

In problem solving, you have all the information you need or are going to get, and you have to figure out something about this information. In research, strictly speaking, you are looking for some information that nobody knows, at least as far as you have been able to discover. Loosely speaking, research may also mean looking up information that other people have collected.
