Think with me a moment about Eastmont Baptist Church. We are not here by chance, but by Gods own choosing. He formed this congregation into the unique blended fellowship that we are. No other church compares with us. We are one of a kind. God also planned the exact place and time that we should serve here. Long before any of us were born, He had planned our life together to make a difference in the lives of many. What a marvelous privilege we have. We can go forward with the knowledge that our steps are being directed by Him. Our Lord will never take us where the grace of God will not protect us. His heart is stirred by our passionate worship of Him each Sunday. Our acts of service, however small or large, bring a smile to His face. He is overjoyed by the sacrifices we gladly offer. He loves us. We are not loved because we are valuable, we are valuable because He loves us. We are His body, His building, and His bride. His Son died for us, His spirit indwells us, His power protects us. It is in His church that most of us first heard the gospel and were saved. In His church we have been loved and encouraged. Like a beacon, the church calls us all to lifes highest and best. In fact, almost everything good that has happened to me in life, has been in some way related to the church. So on some Sunday morning when you are tempted to stay in a comfortable bed, or when your doubts are stronger than your faith, remind yourself how important the church is to you and our world. It is the one place where you are blessed just for showing up. It is the one place we join our others and have our hope renewed. Ill see you Sunday at His place,

The time has come for me to announce my retirement. For the past 36 years, Eastmont has allowed Judy and me to minister with you. We have cried together, laughed together, and worshipped our Lord together. Judy and I have watched our children grow up at Eastmont, and now they have children of their own. We are so thankful for our children and grandchildren, and we appreciate your Christian influence in their lives. Ten years before coming to Eastmont, God introduced me to Judy. Knowing my lifes direction, He graciously provided me the perfect ministry partner. Judy has been my compass and dearest blessing as we have worked and served together. When we came to Montgomery in 1977, Eastmont truly got a two-for-one special; God knew that I could not do this job without Judy by my side. Her support and encouragement have been an abiding source of strength and joy throughout my ministry. A special thank-you goes to Fred Conway, Hazel Marshall, and Margaret Sasser ~ along with Marguerite Cox and Don Jones ~ who were members of the committee who asked me to come to Eastmont. I will be forever grateful for the confidence they had in me, as they extended the invitation to serve the Lord and His people here. Jayne Love has been by my side since 1978. I could not have asked God for a better, more efficient pianist. A minister friend gave me this advice before entering the ministry ~ Surround yourself with the very best. Jayne has been that for me. Her guidance and support have been a tremendous asset to me. Gayla Reaves has been with me for nearly 16 years. Her understanding, graciousness, and talent have been a continual blessing. My health has remained good over the years, but it is time to pass the baton to someone else. One thing has not changed over the past 36 years Eastmont is blessed with much musical talent. That talent, along with your love for Jesus, will draw godly people to serve with you. Thank you for allowing me to listen to Gods voice and to lead under His direction. Words cannot express how much Eastmont has meant to us; it has truly been our life. Judy and I plan to remain in the Montgomery area, being obedient to Gods leading. I respectfully request that my last day be December 31, 2013. In His love and for His kingdom,
