Before you leave make sure that you drop off your sign at the Imagine Leader Booth (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) and your attendance list if you still have it. This is our way of recording attendance numbers, so it is very important that you hand it in! Post-Imagine - Keep in touch with your students! The connections you have made with your MUG Leaders are here to stay, so send them an email once a month or offer to meet up with them on campus for coffee!
IMPORTANT: You ARE UBC. You are a representative, an ambassador, and most importantly, an example of who a UBC student is. This is your opportunity to showcase UBC and welcome students to the greater UBC community. So be yourself, share your story, and HAVE FUN! Conversation Starters Think back to when you were a first year student. It might have been last year for some of you; maybe it was 4 years ago for others. Here are a few ways to spark conversation and get your students talking and asking questions: Active Listening Build a rapport establish your credibility and knowledge, demonstrate a willingness to help Perception checks Guide students to the answers, dont just tell them Keep in mind that everyone has a different comfort level. Some questions that you perceive to be friendly could be invasive and uncomfortable for some students. SOCIAL MEDIA Throughout the day, you and your students can use the #iamubc to broadcast thoughts, questions, images or videos. SUSTAINABILITY As part of UBCs greater mission towards sustainability we would like you all to embrace this mindset and lead your first year students to do the same. We have one of the most beautiful campuss in the world, lets keep it that way!
On Imagine Day there will be waste sorting receptacles as well as regular garbage cans throughout campus. Please encourage your students to use these waste sorting stations where applicable and to ensure that no garbage ends up on the ground. Also to note, please bring a reusable water bottle on Imagine Day. There will be water stations in 3 locations: McInnes Field Koerner Plaza Main Mall in front of the Kaiser Building ORIGAMI 101 The table below contains the time and location where each MUG in your Squad will do the Origami activity.

ORIGAMI INSTRUCTIONS 1. MUG leaders will be given an envelope with Origami paper with prompts printed on them for their groups. This envelope will also be what the students return their prompts in. You will be given a specific time and location to take your MUG to a short 15 minute stop inside a classroom. It is important to be on time for your arrival and departure as groups are schedule around each other. If leaders would like to review their classroom beforehand, they can view most here http://www.students.ubc.ca/classroomservices/buildings-and-classrooms/ Before students enter classroom, the leader explains to them that s/he wants them to walk around the room. Were are they most comfortable? What questions do they have about their first day? In the room, get the students to move around in the space. What does it feel like to sit at the front, the back? What would the difference be for a student a classroom that is a lecture hall versus a seminar or lab room?

What questions does your group still have about learning and their classroom experience? Discuss openly and without judgment remember, you might not have been sure if there was attendance taken or not! Give each student a piece of paper. Ask them to consider the following prompt: At UBC, I will shape my future by. (this is printed on each of the pieces of paper) If the group is open to sharing, ask them to pair up and share with a partner what they wrote. Then ask each student to fold their paper into an airplane (of their choice).
