Well here we are reaching the end of October. I guess you could say we've had another interesting and unprecedented start to our school year. After three years of renovations, we are currently housing all 900 of us in half the school and 10 classroom portables once again. Having said this, I am also amazed how quickly we were able to get back up and running after the September 27th fire. There are definitely a number of groups to thank for this opportunity. These include: 1. The restoration company, Belfor, has been instrumental in the clean-up and restoration. 2. Our own LCHS Custodial Staff and Wolf Creek Maintenance Crews who have worked long, hard hours to restore us to full occupancy at LCHS. 3. The Wolf Creek Technology Staff who were on site both at LJHS and then at LCHS to make sure we had all basic technology systems back in place. 4. Wolf Creek Central Office personnel who supported and assisted us with an array of tasks. 5. Lastly, the Wolf Creek Board of Trustees were eager to show their support and offer assis tance throughout the process. A special THANKS goes out to cole Lacombe Junior High School who took in staff and approximately 280 students daily for a week so we could resume our Diploma Exam Classes and our 20 level core classes. Also, THANKS to clole J.S. McCormick, cole Lacombe Upper Elementary and Terrace Ridge who housed many of our staff so they could continue to plan and prep for classes which would resume in the near future. Schools around the jurisdictions were eager to lend a hand as well. I'd also like to acknowledge the community as there were a flood of calls and emails from various organizations and individuals asking what we needed and how they could be of assistance. In addition, we also received a number of phone calls and emails from other School Boards and businesses letting us know they were available to help in whatever capacity we required. We are truly blessed to work in a jurisdiction and community which knows the meaning of TEAM. At this time, I would also like to acknowledge LCHS Staff and Students who have been extraordinary at dealing with this crisis during and after the fire. I am very proud of the fact that all staff and students were safely evacuated from the building when the fire alarm sounded. I am also proud of how all staff came together to help distribute student personal belongings, were flexible and adaptable during the time after the fire, and have assured all of us, including students, that they are able to successfully get students through the courses with the missed time. LCHS students - you are AWESOME! Students have been patient, flexible, adaptable and empathetic. All staff and students are forever grateful and appreciative of the Lacombe and area Fire Department and Emergency Crews dispensed to LCHS on that day. Enclosed is a thanks that was provided to Sunny 94 by one of our Student Union Executives expressing our appreciation to the firefighters and emergency crews who dealt with the fire on that day. Enclosed in this newsletter you will find a Personal Items Claims Procedure to assist you if you were seeking information with regard to any personal items that were lost or listed as a non-restorable item. Also enclosed is a Claim Form for Personal Property. Students and/or parents should touch base with me if they have any questions or concerns regarding this course of action. All claim forms should also be provided to me personally. Thanks, Val Yaremchuk Principal, LCHS

Grad 2011 Thursday, June 30th

All grade 10 students received Part B of the CTR1010 module Job Preparation as a take home assignment while we were out of LCHS. This section of the module is due by October 26, but can be handed in at the office at any time prior to that date. This is a required module. Students with questions should speak to Mrs. Palm. Grade 12 students should see Mrs. Palm for their Grade 12 interview. This interview covers graduation status and plans for after high school, which includes information on post secondary applications and scholarships. Grade 12 students are encouraged to utilize the Wolf Creek Career Centre Website www.cc.wolfcreek.ab.ca. This website provides information on scholarships, post secondary open houses, application dates, and career information. There is an RDC application drive taking place at LCHS on October 28th. A recruiter from the college will be here helping students with the application process. Paper applications require a cheque for $70, and on-line applications require a credit card. Stop by our temporary Career Centre to pre-register by Oct. 26 For the time being, Mrs. Palm and Mrs. Pack can be found in the main office, near the OffCampus Office.

Yearbook Club

Books & Bagels

The books are ordered and students are ready for the games to begin. The Hunger Games, and Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins will be our first novels this year. Students trying to fill the Twilight void will quickly become enraptured with the lead character Katniss Everdeen. Our first luncheon will be 26th Oct. One lucky student will walked away with a Mockingjay t-shirt. Stay tuned for our next selection.

Students Union is looking forward to a really spectacular year! We have an especially committed and hard-working team of students and teachers on board this year and we have already started planning some wonderful events for the school. We are making it our goal to be successful despite the obstacles we have had to face thus far. Students Union has been working hard to unite the students of LCHS after the fire. We have been welcoming all members of our school community back and also have been selling I Survived the Fire of 2010 t-shirts, with proceeds going to the Lacombe Fire Department. This is just the beginning of a very successful year for the Students Union of LCHS! Paige Mueller, SU President

Join the Clean, Green EcoVision Team

EcoVision is proud to be successfully heading into its third year, and ready for new frontiers. EcoVision was founded in September 2008 to raise awareness of climate change in our school and in our community while reducing our schools carbon footprint and creating an ecologically friendly environment. In the past two years we have implemented cardboard recycling at the school, and we have raised over $45 000 to install a solar panel system onto the school, which started producing energy in September. This year we are developing new ways to reduce our schools footprint, increase awareness and help encourage others with their ecological dreams. Some suggestions that have been proposed include composting, building a greenhouse, and wind generation. The club may also be making various presentations at the school, other schools, and to other groups in the community to increase environmental awareness. Finally, we are also looking at the possibility of an international project that could bring renewable energy to countries such as Kenya or Hati. If you are interested in making a difference and/or would like to join the club, please contact Mr. Schultz at sschultz@wolfcreek.ab.ca . Meetings will resume on Wednesdays at noon in room 1022. To learn more about the club, visit our website at : elchs.wolfcreek.ab.ca/lcsweb/EcoVision

Reimbursement may be provided subject to the limits provided in the insurance of Wolf Creek Public Schools and subject to the application of any personal private insurance being the primary carrier on these items. The following procedure will be followed by those wishing to submit a claim for reimbursement under the Wolf Creek Public Schools insurance plan. 1) All individuals wishing to make a claim for reimbursement must complete the prescribed Alberta School Boards Insurance Exchange Schedule of Loss form. Note that the claimant must indicate on this form whether or not Owners insurance coverage is held by the claimant. If there is Owners insurance coverage in place this must be the primary claim and any reimbursement provided by Wolf Creek Public Schools will be limited to the deductible amount on the owners insurance coverage. 2) Reimbursement will be considered and limited to the actual replacement cost plus GST for the replacement of the lost or destroyed item. The replacement must be of quality similar to the destroyed item. 3) All claims must be supported by actual receipts indicating the actual cost paid for the replacement item. 4) For items that are being claimed as damaged and non-repairable the actual item must be brought to the school with the claim and will be retained by Wolf Creek Public Schools. 5) The Schedule of Loss form must be signed by the claimant or the parent/guardian of the claimant if the individual is under eighteen (18) years of age. All claimants should be aware of the implications of filing a false claim as indicated on the form. 6) Claimants must bring completed Schedule of Loss forms and damaged items to the ESLCHS school office by the end of November 26, 2010. 7) Reimbursement cheques should be expected within three weeks of the submission of the Schedule of Loss form claims.
