Dear Chamber Member Welcome to the October issue of Chamberlink, bringing you all the latest news and information on key upcoming business events and opportunities. The final quarter promises to be a busy one with the concluding seminars in our Access to Finance series, Cork Chambers Dublin Dinner and our Christmas Lunch, alongside the regular Business Breakfasts, After Hours networking event and full Training calendar. We look forward to seeing members from both regions at Cork Chambers Dublin Dinner on Tuesday 19th November in the Doubletree Hilton Hotel (formerly the Burlington Hotel). This is the third year we are running the event which promotes the strenghtening connections between the two cities and affords unique potential for networking opportunity. This month we launch the Cork Company of the Year Awards, in association with Vodafone and we request companies to use this opportunity to reflect on their successes over the past year and submit an application/nomination to us, (see p12 for further information). This month we are delighted to introduce a new feature "Members Business 2 Business" on page 7, where you can avail of competitive advertising rates, contact Deborah at t: (021) 4530149 for a personalised promotional plan. Chamberlink is read by over 5,000 business people every month making it an ideal platform to promote your business. We would like to compliment both Councils, and our other fellow supporting bodies, for organising Rebel Week a flagship event for the Gathering that will see visitors to the city from near and far enjoying a week-long celebration of all things Cork. The Policy department of the Chamber have been extremely busy in the past month preparing submissions on behalf of members and also meeting key stakeholders in the run-up to Budget 2014, a summary of their work can be found on p4. Finally please mark the Friday 22nd November in your diary as the Annual Dinner tickets are going on sale that morning and have sold out in a matter of hours in recent years. Best regards,

Cork Chamber is a partner organisation on the Regional Strategic Messaging Group (RSMG), chaired by the City Manager, along with Cork County Council, Cork Airport, Port of Cork, SWRA, Failte Ireland, UCC, CIT, Enterprise Ireland and IDA. This group was established in response to the on-going challenges that the lack of an over-arching Cork brand creates for all stakeholders in strategically messaging and pitching Cork in their business development work. To address this, and explore the feasibility of developing an over-arching strategic messaging campaign that could be used by all stakeholders to grow Corks global reputation, the first step of the group is to access the different stakeholder perspectives. By engaging with as wide a range of stakeholders from as diverse a range of sectors as possible, (e.g. tourism/education/business, local governement) the RSMG hope to distil the diversity of messages and more clearly delineate what is, and what Corks brand could be. Cork Chamber is responsible for the collection of data on the economic aspect of this work. To capture the business perspective as comprehensively as possible, we have already administered a survey to all our members on their perspectives of Corks branding and we are currently undertaking a number of in-depth interviews with a number of organisations from a cross-spectrum of industries (e.g. pharma, ICT, agrifood, BPO, financial services). Through these interviews, we aim to gather more detailed insights on the perspectives of those engaged in business/ economic development work around the type of strategic messaging that will benefit businesses in their pitching of Cork to clients/customers and how the region could be more effectively marketed to attract new businesses/investors. In association with
its Branding & Economic Marketing Sub-Committee, the Chamber is due to compile the findings of its consultation for the RMSG in forthcoming weeks and will keep members updated as work progressed.
