Healing Prayers The road to El Sanctuario de Chimayo winds through ancient country roads in northern New Mexico, passing through Indian pueblos and tiny Hispano villages. Janice, Erik and I are idway through our vacation and we !oin other pilgri s !ourneying to the ost visited "atholic shrine in the #nited $tates. There is a legendary "hapel o% Healing $ands so ewhere up there. NEXT BETHLEHEM DEADLINE Tuesday, November 19, 2013

It is the bounden duty and service of the people of this parish, being part of the one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church, to worship God as he has revealed himself in Jesus Christ, to become saints, and to make disciples of all people.

during our vacation &ourney. *f course he had our presence and attention $) hours a day. #he day of our visit was a mild, beautiful autumn day. 0our days after our visit, it snowed1 2lessed ,acrament needs prayers for healing in these transitional days. I now and have heard the stories of past conflicts, hurt and painful wounds. I now that for myself it is sometimes hard to let go of anger and hurt, because I don.t. want to be victimi/ed again. !owever, if our parish is to move forward in hope, we all must pray for a healing of memories and any of those significant and petty hurts. #he Evil *ne flourishes when we stay in that place of woundedness and hurt and anger and resentment. 3et us pray for our own healing, for the 4eace of +hrist to flow from one another, so that the ,pirit may open our eyes and hearts to the spiritual renewal that I now is right now unfolding within this beloved parish family. 0aithfully,

+ontinued from page : After about a half hour they returned to me in the chapel courtyard, where I was minding our standard poodle Ella. Jan said that the host invited Eri to stand inside the hole of healing sand. !e and two other persons encircled Eri with prayers. At some point Eri , who is not that verbal, said, "#his feels good "and laughed. #he host gave Jan a large plastic bag of the holy sand to ta e bac home to share with others. In the past people have rubbed their bodies with the sand and prayers for healing. Apparently, something has happened here over these almost $%% years, because people continue to come here for healing. Janice and I respectfully &o ed that after this event, Eri , who is mentally '() years old, was now able to do simple multiplication. *f course, that was not true. !owever, our family could sense a holy presence there in the +hapel of the !oly ,and. -e remember the many years of Eri .s hospitali/ations and great physical suffering. #hings have stabili/ed for him and we are grateful for every day we have with him. !e was a wonderful, receptive traveler $

Sermons /e See
I.d rather see a sermon than hear one any dayM I.d rather one should wal with me than merely tell the way. #he eye.s a better pupil and more willing than the ear, 0ine counsel is confusing, but eCample.s always clearM And the best of all the preachers are those who live their creeds, 0or to see good put in action is what everybody needs. I soon can learn to do it if you.ll let me see it doneM I can watch your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run. And the lecture you deliver may be very wise and true, 2ut I.d rather get my lessons by observing what you doM 0or I might misunderstand you and the high advice you give, 2ut there.s no misunderstanding how you act and how you live. -hen I see a deed of indness, I am eager to be ind. -hen a wea er brother stumbles and a strong one stays behind Just to see if he can help him, then the wish grows strong in me #o become as big and thoughtful as I now that friend to be. And all travelers can witness that the best of guides today Is not the one who tells them, but the one who shows the way. *ne good person teaches many, we believe what we beholdM *ne deed of indness noticed is worth forty that are told. -ho stands with those of honor learns to hold their honor dear, 0or right living spea s a language which to every one is clear. #hough an able spea er charms me with their elo8uence, I say, I.d rather see a sermon than to hear one, any day.
