There are a couple of worship services coming up A Word from Stacy that I want to make sure you are aware of. On Sunday, November 24th we will be celebrating Remembrance Sunday in morning worship. On this day we will be remembering those folks afliated with the congregation who have passed away in the last two years. These include Isa Brown, Jim Martin, Helen Crawford, LeRoy Rea, and Steve Wagonblast. Their families have received a special invitation to be with us on the 24th and I hope all others will be there as well. The following Sunday we will be celebrating a Chrismon service. Sometime in the early 2000s Cathy Wirt came to Murray Hills Christian Church, the church I served before coming to Ione, and led an evening class on Chrismons. Before that I had never heard of them before and although I was unable to attend her class because I was teaching another one, I was taken with what I saw coming out of that class and the conversations that people were having about some of our Christian symbols that we typically take for granted. This summer as I was looking towards advent I was reminded of Chrismons in some reading I was doing and talked with the Diaconate and Christian Education committees about incorporating them into the life of the congregation this advent season. On December 1st at the 11 oclock service we will be having a Chrismon service where will be decorating a tree with Chrismon ornaments that both the children and adult Sunday school classes have made and we will talk about the symbolism of things like the cross, the star, the sh, candles and more. I hope you will make a point of joining us for this service. My hope is that it will call all of us into an awareness of Christ as we meet the various symbols throughout the coming holiday season. Blessings, Pastor Stacy

You may have noticed that one of the things that was cut out of the 2014 budget was pay for a nursery worker. "We are hoping to staff the nursery with volunteers who would be available to provide childcare only if it is needed. "We are looking for four

volunteers to be the regular nursery folks with a couple of others available on a substitute basis. Please let Stacy know if you would be willing to serve in this capacity.

Budget Meeting & Breakfast

A good time was had by all at the annual budget meeting and breakfast on November 3rd. A special thank you goes out to Kerry and John Rietmann who headed up the crew of Cathy Gates, Gina Jepsen, Arlynda Gates, Earl & Rhonda Garrett, and Lexie & Kaitlyn Garrett for the breakfast.

Congregational Meeting Minutes, November 3rd Budget Meeting

Moderator Dave Heagy opened the meeting by leading the congregation in singing, We Give Thee but Thine Own. Treasurer, Margo Sherer reviewed the 2013 budget activity year to date with special discussion of any over spent categories. She pointed out that a refund of $500.00 had been applied to the Ministers Professional & Education category but it does not reect on the report as it is not possible to make a credit entry to this budget line item. There were no questions concerning the current budget. Margo then explained the 2014 proposed budget with special note of any changes. All categories that had signicant decreases or were cut from the budget were explained in detail. There were no questions from the congregation. John Rietmann noted the $15,000 shortfall in the 2013 budget emphasizing that giving is down while spending is on budget. He explained that savings had been used to back ll the budget this year but it is not prudent to continue this practice going forward. The Trustees worked hard to address this concern in the 2014 budget but also are aware we must work toward spending what we take in rather than coming up short. There being no further discussion. Linda LaRue moved that the budget be adopted as presented. Betty Gray seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Pastor Stacy spoke of the distribution of funds that were gathered for the Foods Resource Bank. She reported that the Church Council had recommended that these funds be divided equally between Honduras Nueva and Nicaragua Mateare aid programs. After discussion, Chuck Nelson moved we send equal shares of the funds to Honduras and Nicaragua as recommended. Betty Rietmann seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Pastor Stacy mentioned that she had received a handbook from the National Congregational Church. This brings to mind the limited membership we have in this denomination and it may be time to consider making a change at our annual meeting. The council has discussed this but they cannot make a change only a recommendation. Respectfully submitted, Linda K. LaRue (These minutes will be accepted or denied at the January 26th Annual Meeting of the congregation.)

Regional Ministers to Visit November 17th

Co-Regional Ministers Doug and Cathy Wirt will be with us on Sunday, November 17th at the 11 oclock worship service to present the sermon. Doug and Cathy have been the regional ministers for the Oregon Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for thirteen years. The region recently went through a boundary change and now includes southern Idaho as well. Doug and Cathy enjoy visiting all the churches in the region and were glad to have the opportunity to come see their friends in Ione again. Cathy will also be leading the adults in creating Chrismons in Sunday school that morning beginning at 9:45. This is an exciting day in the life of our congregation and we hope that all will make an effort to be here to welcome Cathy and Doug to town!
