My uncle works in a pineapple canning factory in Tampoi, Johor Bahru. He has been working there for the past 15 years. Last week my parents and I visited my uncle. Then I remembered about my Kajian Tempatan project. The next day I asked my uncle whether I could visit the factory to write about pineapple canning for my project. My uncle agreed and he took me to the factory the following day to see how pineapples are processed and canned. First, the fresh harvested pineapples were skinned and cored. This process was done using the machines. Then the pineapples were washed in big containers to remove dirt. After that, they were cut in smaller pieces by giant cutters. The pieces of pineapples were put into cans and syrup was added to sweeten it. Then they went through a heating process to kill any bacteria. When the process is over the cans were steamed in large steamers and cooled. The pineapple cans are then labelled and packed into boxes. These boxes were sent to ports and exported all over the world.
