The Suitcase

Characters: Man Woman A Voice Another Voice Girl SCRIPT: (A woman, her daughter and a man travel in a train in first class. The train arrives at a train station).

Man: Excuse me ladies, I am going down for a moment.

Woman: Please try to find out if the train is going to stay here for a long time.

Man: I think so, because they are going to put water into the machine.

A Voice: Two minutes! Ladies and Gentlemen, the train will be here for two minutes!

Another Voice: Cinnamon cookies, cinnamon cookies!

Girl: Mother, I am going to buy some cookies.

Woman: No, remember that when we travel we have to be careful with what we eat. Can you see how good it was for us to change cars? The man sitting with us is so respectful and decent! I think I saw him before in St. Louis with a fat woman. Maybe you remember, when we went to the movies. Try to remember: He was sitting in front of us and she couldnt see the movie. The woman cried a lot during the sad scenes of the movie, and also during the happy ones. Dont you remember?

Girl: No, I dont remember mother.

Woman: You have such a bad memory! When I see a person once, I never forget his face or figure.

Voices: Passangers, to the train! We are leaving!

Woman: Oh, they are calling the passangers, and the man hasnt returned yet. I hope he doesnt miss the train. Please, watch through the window. Can you see him?

Girl: No.

Woman: A man is missing, a man is missing! Please dont leave! How terrible this is! Where did he go?

Girl: I dont think he changed cars because his suitcase is here.

Woman: That doesnt matter because we can give it to him through the window. Where can he be? Didnt he hear that we were going to stay here for only two minutes? Lets throw his suitcase through the window, help me.

Girl: Poor man! At least he will keep his suitcase. Take it mother! There it goes!

Woman: (to the train clerk) This is the suitcase of a man who was left behind down there! Someone over there can give it to him when he appears. What a careless man! He must have known that the train doesnt wait for anybody. What will his family say when doesnt show up ! Oh my God a thousand times, I dont even want to think about it. I feel sorry because he was a good companion, and he had a nice conversation. He was a fine educated man.

(the train arrives at another train station. The man is standing at the door) Woman: What is this?

Girl: Ahh!

Woman: You are here!

Man: Yes, I was in the last car.

Woman: But but. the train didnt leave you behind?

Man: What happened to my suitcase? Where is it?

Woman: I am so sorry, sir; we thought you missed the train, and we wanted to do you a favor

Man: What?

Girl: We threw your suitcase through the window.

Man: And who told you to do that? Why?

Woman: We did it for you!

Girl: If only we knew!

Man: And now what am I going to do? I knew you were going to do something terrible, since the beginning I was suspicious of you!

Woman: Why are you acting like this?

Man: Tell me how am I suppose to act?

Girl: You should have told us where you were going.

Man: Are you both crazy Why was I suppose to tell you what I was going to do! Woman: Hey, you dont have the right to tell us that we are crazy, not even to my daughter. I thought you were such a fine educated man. You dont even know her! I was so wrong!

Man: But you do know her.

Woman: You are being disrespectful, and I cant tolerate it.

Girl: Mother, mother, calm down!

A Voice: Passangers, to the train! Passangers, to the train!

Woman: When we arrive to the next station, you will see who I am.

Man: Do whatever you want, but wheres my suitcase? Where did they leave it? You have to give it to me.

Woman: Me? You go get it to the train station we left behind. If someone picked it up when you go.

Girl: Mother, mother, Sir please calm down now!
