Stage 3 Learning Plan


Learning Activities:
Engage The teacher will review place values (hundred millions, ten millions, millions, hundred thousands, ten thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones). Elicit - The teacher will hold up base-ten units, sticks and plates to represent decimals. Students will say aloud the decimal that is being represented. The teacher will then tell students that each unit represents 1/100 and 0.01, each stick represents 1/10 and 0.10 and each plate represents 10/10 = 1 and 1.0 = 1. The teacher will then hold up the units, sticks, and plates creating numbers. The students will say aloud the decimal representation and the fraction representation. Explore Students will be given Decimal Designs to practice writing the decimal and fractions. Students will complete In The Paper. Explain The teacher will discuss how knowing the fraction representation of a decimal will help them to write the expanded form of the decimal. Elaborate & Extend The teacher will show how to go from the standard form to the expanded form and how to go from the expanded form to the standard form. The teacher will show how to go from written form to expanded form and from expanded form to written form. Students will practice expanded form. After completion of the practice sheet, students will play I HaveWho Has? as a class. Evaluate Students will complete a Quick Key exit ticket.
