Gym Week One

GLO [A] Students will acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities; dance, games, types of gymnastics, individual activities and activities in an alternative environment; e.g., aquatics and outdoor pursuits. A11 perform locomotor skills through a variety of activities A13 perform nonlocomotor skills through a variety of activities A110 demonstrate body and space awareness when performing space awareness games A111 demonstrate an understanding of basic rules and fair play for simple games 1. Students will develop their locomotor skills through running while playing tag, as well as other activities such as jumping, leaping, galloping (etc.) through the warm ups. 2. Students will perform and develop their nonlocomotor skills by stretching, turning, and twisting during warm-ups 3. Students will demonstrate their awareness of body space through tag games. Students will understand, experience and appreciate the health benefits that result from physical activity. B13 experience and improve continued frequency of involvement in cardiorespiratory activities. B17 recognize the changes that take place in the body during physical activity 1. Students will understand the importance of stretching and why we try to help our body be its best through fitness. Students will interact positively with others. C11 develop and demonstrate respectful communication skills appropriate to context C13 identify and demonstrate etiquette and fair play C15 display a willingness to play cooperatively with others in large and small groups 1. Students will review how to play tag fairly and appropriately. 2. Students will demonstrate etiquette and communication while playing tag.

Speed walking tag. b. When I say go go IT will chase all the other players around the gym and try to tag you, when you get tagged you come sit on the side. c. Two people are IT. d. Once everyone done, two more people will be IT 6) Explain game Fairy Godmother/father Tag a. Two people IT give them pinnies. b. Two people Fairy godmother give them wrapping paper roll c. When they tagged, must go on back with legs and arms in the air. d. a. Two people IT, when tagged you are frozen. b. To be unfrozen, a person must crawl through your legs. 4) Hounds and Rabbits Tag Pg. 22 a. four hounds, count to three and then howl loudly. b. All the rabbits are at one wall and then run to a hula hoop, two per hula hoop max. c. Hand out even number of coloured pinnies to each student. b. The two without pinnies are IT call out colour and they all run to other wall (just past safe zone). c. If tagged sit to side (or become it as well?) d.
