Problem Scenario:
Design a 30 minute engaging instructional lesson for 2
nd

graders on the use of money.

Objective:
2.MD.C.8. Solve word problems involving dollar bills,
quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using dollar and
cent signs.
After watching the YouTube Clip on counting money and
going over the PowerPoint, teacher and students will
work on practice problems together. After a couple,
Students will be expected to solve the problems on the
handout by themselves.

Instructional materials and resources:
PowerPoint, handout, fake coins and bills, YouTube clip.
Classroom will need a computer, projector, screen, and
whiteboard. Students are expected to bring their own
writing utensils.

Engaging Activities and Instructional Strategies:
Students will be required to participate and solve a word
problem on the board with the help of a teacher. The
students will be given fake coins and dollar bills to help
them in understanding the problem and counting. When
given the handout, students will still be able to use the
fake money to help them with their word problems.

Assessment:
The teacher will collect the handout after students are
finished and grade them individually If a student got a
70% or higher, it shows that the student understood the
lesson. If the student got below a 70% they need to spend
more time on the lesson to grasp it.
