This document is a request from Libya Design to conduct a geotechnical investigation of soil conditions at a construction site in Tripoli, Libya before beginning structural work on a new office building. It requests that a geotechnical engineer take soil samples from at least three bore holes at the locations indicated in the attached CAD drawing to a depth of 15 meters. The tests should determine the soil density, shear resistance, groundwater level, corrosiveness, bearing capacity, and expected foundation settlement. The results should be presented in a technical report with soil profiles, bore hole locations, test data, and diagrams.

Dear Sir, Before the structural work commence it is important that a soil study is undertaking as to determine the condition of the soil. This will allow us to design the right foundation for the building and in turn it would save money. What we will require is geotechnical investigation of the soil which will be carried out by experienced geotechnical engineer and his team. The results of the investigation should be based on tests carried out in specialized laboratory on soil examples from at least three bore holes took from the site, as showed in the attached drawing. The tests should at least include the following: 1. Weight density of the each soil layer (if any), 2. Angle of shearing resistance, 3. Max. level of the underground water, 4. Corrosive hazard due to salt in the water, 5. Calculation of the bearing capacity of the soil in foundation depth for type of foundation used in design, 6. Calculation of the foundation settlement. After all tests are done, the results should be presented in technical report, together with geological profile of the terrain drawing with type and thickness of each soil layer (if any), level of underground water, place of bore holes. Also, in the report should be attached all diagrams and data which are the result of the tests. In the attachment you will find a CAD drawing in PDF format showing the positions of where the bore holes should be taken. We recommend no less than three bore holes are taken for this size of a site, at each side of the site as to try and get as much diverse data as possible. We recommend a depth of 15 meters to get a clear data and good understanding of the soil condition.
