Kia Ora Koutou,

Our little school is continuing to grow. This week with our latest new
entrant started on Monday. Welcome to Caitlyn Huges, Toby and
Jordan's little sister. Our Super Heroes, new entrant class, has been
busy this week practising for their reading show today. They are
raising money to purchase more native trees to plant to attract native
birds to our school. Our Year One, Karaka class, have completed their
fundraising for their rain barrel. Thanks to everyone who helped make and purchased soup (which
was very delicious by the way!). Karaka has actually had a very busy week, with a visit to the Kindy
on Tuesday for their pyjama party. They were very cute walking to the kindy in their pyjamas and
onesies, Miss Webb looked particularly spectacular in her giraffe onesie! Maybe we should add them
to our uniform list??
Kea has assembly today, and I have been listening to their recorder practices. They are starting to
sound really good and I am looking forward to hearing their performance. The Thunderbolts are busy
investigating ways to make our school more sustainable and enviro-friendly. I have had some quite
thought provoking interviews with kids this week, and I think I will start looking into a few ideas they
have mentioned. Finally Mana, our senior class, did really well last week and managed to finish
fourth in the Sumdog mathematics challenge. It is particularly impressive since we were definitely the
smallest school to participate.
One more reminder that tomorrow is the Taihape Winter Tournament, down at the sports grounds in
Taihape. The powhiri is at 9am, so our buses will need to leave no later than 8.30am. Please make
sure your child is here by 8.15am so we can take the roll and get everyone loaded on time. All senior
students from Mrs Bell's class and Miss B's class are either playing Netball, Soccer or Rugby. We
are still in need of referees for the day, so please let Miss B know if you are available. We will be in
Taihape all day, so if you happen to have a day off or are passing through we would love as many
supporters down there to cheer us on as possible.
Finally, unfortunately we have more health related news. A nasty tummy bug is currently circulating
our school along with the flu. Please if your child has the runs or has thrown up they need to stay
away from school for at least 24 hours after their last vomit/diarrhoea episode. Tummy bugs are very
contagious and remain so for 24 hours after their last symptoms. Please keep them at home,
cleaning up vomit from classroom floors is not fun.
