Today Special

Serene Flow

Things don't always go the way we want them to.

At these times, we can resist or we can adapt to the circumstances of the
moment.

Like a serene lake, we can go with the flow and make the best of the way
things are.

Thought for Today

Take life as it is, full of drama and adventure. Experience the fun and the
excitement, if not, it'll turn into melodrama!

So, the next time things get dramatic in your life, add the ingredient of
humour and go from feeling heavy to being light.

Lighten up and you'll lighten up the situation; going from melodrama to
enjoying the drama of life.

Talking to Yourself

How do you talk to yourself? Is it a stream of fears, complaints and
mindless repetition of old things?

If we spoke to others in that way, we'd have to apologise! Apologise to
yourself and talk to yourself, properly.
Be supportive, loving, kind, encouraging....

Talk to yourself as you would to a friend, or
as a mother would to a child, or like a coach or a cheerleader

Like the Diamond

Diamonds are a symbol of endurance;
they're born under intense heat and extreme pressure.

Just like the diamond, we too become resilient and radiant thanks to life's
pressures.

Shift into Neutral

Just as we put the car into neutral gear, in the same way
we too can, in between activities, shift our mind into neutral. Just for a
moment, bring everything in motion to stillness.

Neutrality brings rest, renewal and balance.
This empowers us to operate at an optimal level,
make clearer decisions and move forward in the right direction.

Want More

We have more! We want more! We get more!
Like seawater, the more we drink, the thirstier we become!

So, if you don't have the resources to get more,
why not make the most of what you already have!

Communicating
the Small Stuff

Do you have the habit of arguing over the small stuff?

Challenge your communication habits.
Does every disagreement need to be an argument?

Small details can often divert attention from the larger and deeper issues.
So, focus on what's important.
Choose your battles, wisely.

And when you really need to discuss the small details,
calmly communicate in a way that enhances the relationship.

Your Inner Artist

Today, bring out your inner artist.

Try seeing things from different perspectives. Look for notable things to
wonder at, maybe the tiny detail or a big panorama.

Then engage your inner artist in what you do and turn everyday actions
into an artistic expression.

Trusting Other
People

Trusting other people is not easy because there's always a risk. People can
make mistakes, let us down....

Maybe we need to learn to trust without being naive;
give people the benefit of the doubt and be cautious when caution is called
for.

Thought
Destinations

Like a train, your thoughts take you to various destinations.

When your thoughts stray in the wrong direction or
into a negative zone, you can always get off the train!

Catch the next train of thought going in your chosen direction, to a dream
destination or an undiscovered location.

Where are your thoughts taking you?

self-control

If we want to recover the control over our life, we must learn to control our
thoughts and feelings and not blame anyone else for them. The more self-
control we have over ourselves, the less will we want to control others and
our capacity to influence other people positively will be greater.

Clean Up Your
Mind

You know when you're expecting visitors; you can get the cleaning done in
no time at all! In the same way, when you're expecting to start something
new, quickly clean up your mind.

Open the windows of your mind and create space for your thoughts to
breathe. Clear out the clutter and get your mind in order. This is a great
way to install energy into yourself and bring enthusiasm into your task.

Happiness
Postponed?

Happiness: is it postponed until further notice?
Have you convinced yourself: I'll be happy when.... ?

Actually there's no better time to be happy, than right now!
If not now, then when? So, go on, choose happiness today.

Making an
Apology
Even when it's hard to say sorry, be courageous and apologise. Apologise,
even if it isn't accepted, now, later or never. Making an apology can lighten
your heart, so, do it for yourself.

If a face-to-face apology feels too challenging, phone or write. And if you
really don't want to, or can't connect with the other person, then apologise
to them in your mind.

Be the Boss of
Your Mind

At times, the mind can be like a relentless boss, constantly giving us
thoughts to think about.

Instead of letting the mind boss you around, you become the boss of your
mind and make your mind work for you.

Allocate specific times to solve problems and think creatively. With
thoughts that are not productive: "You are fired!"

Don't forget to be a good boss and give your mind regular breaks and
holidays!

Your Co-operation

Co-operate with everyone with your thoughts, feelings and perception.

See others in a kindly way, think positively about them and have good
feelings.

Extend your co-operation to all and you create a more harmonious
environment and atmosphere.

The Art of
Patience

What cannot be achieved with pressure can easily be achieved with
patience. Patience gives you the time to chip away at your dream and turn
it into a reality. It tells you not to push, not to rush; there is a reason and a
season for everything.

And when things go wrong, patience tempers the feeling of failure and
buffers the heart. It teaches you to keep your cool. A cool head knows
when to wait and when to act.

Travelling
Companions

On the journey of life, we find many travelling companions.

Some are like-minded, others' are incompatible.
Some encourage us to travel further; others' may hold us back. Some stay
with us until their own journey steers them on a different course, and then
we say goodbye!

Today, take a moment to appreciate your travelling companions.

Making Decisions

Often it's easy to help others make decisions because we are more
objective when we're not completely emotionally involved.

So if you want to get good at making your own decisions, get good at being
objective. Learn to step back from the situation, mentally & emotionally, to
gain a better perspective.

Then you'll know what's best for you & what decision to make.

Accentuate, Not
Exaggerate

We exaggerate to make people laugh or to lighten the atmosphere. But
every time we exaggerate, we're distorting reality. We're making a
mountain out of a molehill and much ado about nothing.

Even though exaggeration seems harmless, try to steer away from over-
exaggerating.

Replace 'exaggerate' with 'accentuate'.
Emphasize and magnify what's best. Accentuate the positive. Just don't
over-accentuate!

Keep Up With
Time

Time flies, right? To keep up with the speed of time, make the most of
each minute. To catch the spirit of time, let your thoughts be filled with
light. Be purposeful in every action and you might just discover that you
have all the time in the world!

Lunch Meditation

During your lunch break, refresh your focus with 2 minutes of meditation.
Find a quiet space, outdoors or in the workplace (there's always the
bathroom!).

Disengage your mind from all the details and breathe. Be as still as you
can. Focus on the thought: I am peace. Savour deep peace and bring the
feeling of peace into the rest of the day.

From the Heart

Take a moment and think about your day yesterday:
did you live from the heart?

What you couldn't do yesterday, do today!

Today, live from your heart

Your Undivided
Attention

What people want most from us is our undivided attention; that's why
listening is such an important skill. When we give partial attention to
others, the result is misunderstandings, mistakes and hurt feelings.

So the next time someone is talking to you, instead of planning on what
you're going to say next, texting or checking emails - give them your
undivided attention!

Listen completely and you'll enrich the interaction,
the relationship, as well as your own experience as a listener.

Life's Curveballs

When life throws you a curve ball, are you ready for the unexpected?

Take a deep breath and adapt to the new reality. Be brave enough to think
on your feet and rethink your strategy.

Catch the ball, drop it; or find a way to get over, under or around it! Keep
your momentum to keep pace with life's curveballs.

The Blame Game When something goes wrong, it's all too easy to blame just about
everybody & everything. But instead of playing the blame game, use your
time & energy to fix the situation. Then figure out what went wrong & how
it can be avoided in the future.

Confidently take ownership & responsibility when the blame is yours; &
when it's not, then handle the situation constructively.

Smile Back

A smiley person is one whose heart seems to radiate through their teeth.

And when they smile, it's almost impossible not to smile back....

So even if you don't feel like it, smile anyway. It'll make you feel better.

And when you smile, chances are, the person receiving your smile will smile
back, and you'll feel even better.

Health Challenges

When you're facing a health challenge, whether it's flu or something more
serious, give the body time to rest and recuperate.

As well as medical care, nourish the mind with positive thoughts; keep your
head calm and your heart happy.
This will help the body's healing process.

Lessons from 2012

Before the end of the year, make time to look back at 2012.
No matter how 2012 was for you, accept everything that was.

See every experience as a necessary part of your personal growth. Find the
lessons and use the lessons learnt from 2012 to propel you forward into
2013!

Quality
Notice

Start to notice the worst in others and you get irritated, critical and
wonder: "Why are they like this?"

No one's perfect, are they? So why dwell on anyone's shortcomings?
Why not make a genuine effort to notice the good in others.

Notice at least one positive quality and you empower that quality in them
and yourself.

Reboot Your
Focus

Just like computers, sometimes we also need a reboot. Especially when feeling
frustrated, overloaded or simply needing a fresh start. Take a few minutes to
reboot your focus.

Be fully aware of what you are doing: breathing, walking, driving, eating.... If
your mind begins to drift off, then gently bring your focus back to what you are
doing.

Now you're ready to restart with a clean slate & a fresh focus.

The Art of
Gift Giving

It's amazing how much thought, time & care goes into selecting & wrapping
gifts. This year, elevate your gift-giving by giving because you want to give, not
because you feel obliged.

Give from your heart, without expecting gratitude, smiles or something in
return. Give with joy & enjoy the process of giving gifts.

Stress-free Last minute shopping, family get-togethers, spending too much money, parties,
your
Holidays

and all the other holiday activities; it's a perfect recipe for stress!
Release unrealistic expectations and take the pressure off.
Have some days planned; catch up with friends, spend time in nature, have fun.
And have some days to just relax and chill out!
This year, get the best out of your holidays and make the most of your holidays.

Taming
(Conquering)
The Mind

In ancient times, the mind was understood to be extremely difficult to control. It
was said to be like the wind: you could never catch it, or hold it - it went where it
wished and no human being could become its master. In other instances, it was
said that the mind was like an elephant: extremely powerful but equally gentle
and patient, able to do a lot of work for its master. However, when an elephant
turns wild, its gentleness and patience completely disappear and it destroys and
damages everything in its path. When the mind is under stress, it resembles a
wild elephant; it has no control and cannot be controlled.

Taming the mind is regarded as a great art requiring time, attention, practice
and, above all, a sincerity of heart where individuals truly want to change their
way of thinking. To relax, to be positive, to be peaceful and kind all require a
change in our thought patterns and this can only happen when we look deeply
within. However hard they try, other people cannot change us; we must have
personal realization and the desire to make changes through our own effort.
Permanent and positive change cannot be imposed from outside; it is something
that we choose.

Winter Will
Pass

We tolerate & handle the winter because we know that winter will surely pass.
The same applies to life.

Tough times will come. Stuff happens.

Understand: All things will pass.

Think: I can handle & get through whatever I am going through.

Beyond the Most of the time, we skim over the surface without exploring what's below. So
take time to look beyond the surface.
Surface

See the people behind the structures; the intentions behind the actions. Look
deeply to understand and respond wisely.

Like a
Domino

Have you ever seen one of those huge, intricate domino displays? Until each
domino is placed in it's own unique position, there is no chance of the display
being revealed in its entirety.

So, come on, take up your position, like one of those dominoes.

And realise: You are the right person in the right spot.
You are a vital part of a greater design that's truly stunning!

Overcoming
Criticism

When criticism comes your way, overcome the urge to get hurt or defensive.

Have self-respect, maintain your self-esteem and remain calm, then you'll be
able to learn from the criticism.
