ARGENTINA
Chincul Cherokee Arrow A military
t rai ni ng version of t he Cherokee Arrow,
t he Chincul aircraft first flew in January
1978. The aircraft has a more powerful
engi ne (260 h. p. Lycoming AEIO-540),
a new rearward-sliding canopy and the
provision for an optional 7-62mm
machine gun in t he lower front fuselage
and bombs or rocket s on underwi ng
pylons.
FMA IA-58 Pucara Production of t he
IA-58A Pucara twin-turboprop counter-
insurgency aircraft is underway against
an Argentinian Air Force order for 60.
A prototype improved IA-58B Pucara
Bravo flew on May 15, 1979, and 40
have been ordered by t he Air Force.
The Pucara Bravo feat ures a redesigned
forward fuselage housing two 30mm
Defa cannon (140 rounds per gun) in
place of t he IA-58A's twin 20mm His-
pano cannon. The four 7-62mm machine
guns are retained. Production of t he
IA-58A continues at two a mont h and
manufact ure of t he IA-58B should begin
this year.

FMA IA-63 Design of t he IA-63 single,
engined j et t rai ner is well advanced
and t he first of four prototypes should
fly in late 1983. The Argentinian Air
Force needs 80 to 100 aircraft to ent er
service from 1985. Dormer' s design
assistance is evident in t he Alpha Jet-
like layout of t he IA-63. The shoulder-
mounted wing has a supercritical sec-
tion. Powerplant is ei t her a Garret t
AiBesearch TFE731-3 (3,7001b t hr ust ) or
a Pr at t & Whitney JT15D-5 (3,4001b
t hr ust ) . IA-63 data: span 31ft 9in
(9-7m), length 34ft l l i n (10-6m), hei ght

Government Aircraft Factories Nomad
Missionmaster/Searchmaster Produc-
tion of all Nomad vari ant s continues at
t he rat e of two a month, including
specialised aeromedical, geophysical,
floatplane and amphibian versions. Mis-
sionmaster liaison/cargo aircraft can
be based on t he N22B or stretched
N24A Nomad airframes. Two Search-
mast er coastal surveillance versions are
available; t he Searchmast er B with
120-scan Bendix r adar and t he Search-
mast er L with 360-scan Litton radar.
The first L vari ant was delivered to t he
Australian Bureau of Customs in Feb-
ruary last year. Latest Nomad improve-
ment s include introduction of t he Alli-
son 250 B17C t urboprop with redesigned
propeller reduction gearbox offering
l onger service life. GAF is developing
water-methanol engine injection to
improve emergency take-off power.

BRAZIL
Aerotec A-132 Uirapuru II Having built
some 150 A-122 Ui rapuru pri mary
t rai ners, including 100 (designated
T-23s) for t he Brazilian Air Force, Aero-
t ec has developed an uprat ed, fully
aerobatic version called t he A-132
Ui rapuru II. Two prototypes have been
built and delivery of up to 100 aircraft
to replace Brazilian T-23s should begin
this year.

Embraer EMB-110/111 Bandeirante Em-
br aer pl ans to build 73 Bandei rant e
light t ransport s in 1981, for civil and
military customers. The Brazilian Air
Force operat es ut i l i t y/ paradroppi ng,
liaison and aerial-photography versions
of t he EMB-110. The Air Force Coastal
Command operat es 12 EMB-111 mari-
time-patrol vari ant s with nose-mounted
AIL Cutler-Hammer APS-128 search
radar. Export cust omers operat e both
t ransport and pat rol vari ant s and
Gabon will receive one EMB-111 this
year.

Embraer EMB-121 Xingu France has
selected t he Xingu executive t urboprop
for Air Force and Navy multi-engine
training and liaison duties. The Brazilian
Air Force already operat es six EMB-121s
(designated VU-9s) as VIP t ransport s.
In 1979, Embraer began work on a
st ret ched EMB-121B Xingu II with mor e
powerful PT6A-42 t urboprops. Deliveries
are to begin this year. Embraer pl ans
to build 22 Xingus in 1981.

Embraer EMB-326B Xavante Licence-
production of t he EMB-326GB light-

Air Force order for 184. Aircraft have

Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia Being de-
veloped for t he commut er airliner
market , t he EMB-120 twin-turboprop
30-seat aircraft will be offered to mili-
t ary cust omers for mari t i me surveil-
lance, rescue, paradroppi ng and elec-
tronic-intelligence dut i es. The first
prototype is scheduled to fly in 1982
and deliveries will st ar t in 1984.
