This incident is t}Ie most tragic and wolst disastertlat happenedin our country this
year,

flssessmcnt
While peopleare trying to survivetlrough their own little ways,Nature itself waslike
a thief that ravagedall thef proPertiesMajorityof the damagesduringthe incidents
involved their sourcesof livelihood Now that everrthing is all gone, people have
nothingbuttheir preciouslife.

During tragic events like this, peoples'generoushearts will always open no matter
what we haveor how hard our way of living is. Emergencyrelief assistance coming
from localand internationalagencies floodedafterthe first few daysof the incident'
All weredirectedto the Dioceseandto the localSovemmentofMaasin.Variousefforts
were
werealsoconductedto raisefundsto augmenttheir resources.Reliefoperations
conductedin everycorner aiming to reachout to all the families that were affected All
lesourceshoweverdwindled so fast becauseof t}te extent of damagesand needs lf
and when all thesewill havebeen depleted, peopleare afraid if they could still find a
wayto havea decentliving and live normally

Sinceall assistancewas directed only to the victims of landslides in Southem Lelte,

other dioceseswere not assisted The resourcesof their respectivelocal governments
wereexhaustedcausingmany families neglectedbecauseof very limited rcsources

The diocesesof Maasin, Sudgao and Butuan are all members of our Social Acrtion
Network. In times of disasterslike this, eachone of them helps one another tirough
the own little but meaningfulways. But thesearc not enoughto sustaintlle long term
needsofthe people.
