FISH STORY
Upon the openina of fishing
season discouraging rc)orts
of poor fishing conditions
began to trickle in to the
local papers . It seems th.lt
, many of the lakes and stre.ms
in imned:1Gl. te areas are suffer-
ing the swn.e 'fate bf once
spots in the ot her ,
states; namely they are being
fished out. This is almost
always the case \-Then the com-
bination of increased populat-
ion and improved roads is in-
volved.
However the COURIER is happy
"
to re;:>ort that in thespots
not readily accessable to
cars ( and there are very many
of these) the fishing is
as faouluous as ever.
. Fisherm&n returning from
some of the rivers and lukes

Ed Bellringer, of nile 25
returned this past weekend SERVE with cream or boiled
from afishing trip accross the custard sauce
inlet with a catch that includ
several rainbo\r over 30 inches
long, plus a lake trout 28
inches long.. The fantastic
part about the fish, is
that upon opening it up. , he
found it to contain a 12 inch
rainbm.r that it had sHallov"red.
In fact the story itself is
hard to excepp that
the evidence in this case was
viewed first hand. It seems
to understand why this
fish was still hungry enough
to strike at a lure . L
It would please us if
could tell our readers the lo-
cation of these angl.ers dream

fishermen guard this infornnt-
ion quite jealously. So all
we can nay, is that don

COHPOST
Despite the fact that most cr o
flourish in Alaska by the add-
ition of comuercial fertilizers
to the soil, there are some
who feel that the addition of
some organic material benefits
the smil . This is particularl
true when there is a great am-
out of clay or sand present .
The ideal ma tcrial is burn-
yard manure, which has been us
as fertilizer for centuries.
In this part of the country,
unfortunately, this product is
quite scarce; most keep
ing all that is produced for
their own gardens .
A substitute for manure may b
made by anyone, houever by the
use of compost . This consists
of decayed plant which
wlieiYJlded to the soil replaces
SOI:le of the minerals ,;hich grow
ing plants re1;10ve, and at the
