Manali

1. The Castle was built around 1460 AD, by Rajah Sidh Singh of Kullu. The mediaeval
structure is located in Naggar, which is a part of the Manali region. An architectural blend of
western and Himalayan style is displayed by the castle.
Located near the River Beas, the castle houses an art gallery. Once the home of the Rajah,
the mansion was converted to a rest house (run by HPTDC), in 1978. The mansion displays
a blend of stone and wood in its architecture. A temple is located in the courtyard of the

2. Kothi is located at a distance of 16 km from Manali, on the way to Lahaul-Spiti-Leh highway.
The village of Kothi forms the bottom of the Rohtang Pass. From the gorge, tourists can avail
the views of the deep gorge, and the River Beas rushing through it. The Kothi Gorge lies at a
distance of 16 km from Manali, at an elevation of 2,500 metres.
The climb from the village to the gorge takes around an hour. The climbing trail contains
several thermals coming off the rocks and is a favourite with the local eagles. This gorge also

3. Rohtang Pass Day
4. Solang Valley, popular as a picnic spot, has a 300 metre high ski lift, which is well known
amongst skiers. Known as Snow Point, it is located between Beas Kund and Solang Village.
At the valley, tourists can enjoy varied activities like horse riding, paragliding, skiing and
zorbing. An annual winter skiing festival is held every year. On the top of the hill, a shrine of
Lord Shiva is located.
5. River Beas is an added beauty of Manali. It has many games like rafting, river crossing and
many more. It is added enjoyment to the trip to Manali
6. Malana is located below the Chanderkhani Pass. The hamlet comprises a small cluster of
around 200 stone roof houses. The temple of Jamlu, dedicated to the spirit of village God
Jamlu, is a highlight of the village.
Located in the interior of the Himalayas, the village is connected to Kullu by three mountain
passes. Kanashi is the language of the village. Badoh Mela in August and Fagdi Mela in
February are the two main festivals celebrated in the village.Day
7. Gulaba is a scenic spot and is covered with snow from November to February. Located at a
distance of 20 km from Manali, Gulaba is on the way to Rohtang Pass. Timings - Opening &

8. Beas Kund is the origin of the River Beas. It is a popular site among Hindus, especially for
the followers of Vyas, owing to the belief that Rishi Vyas used to take his bath in this Kund. A
holy place, a dip in the Kund is believed to cure skin and other diseases.
Sheltered by an igloo like stone formation, the typical rocky terrain is devoid of vegetation. At
the site, tourists can opt for trekking and camping. The Kund also serves as a base of
climbing the Shitidhar, Friendship, Ladakhi and Hanuman Tibba peaks. Timings - Opening &

9. Van Vihar is a municipal garden is situated in front of the Tibetan market on Mall Road. In
the lake located within the park, tourists can opt for boating. The park is adorned with big

10. The Great Himalayan National Park harbours one of the few known viable population of
Western Tragopan, along with more than 300 species of birds and over 30 species of
mammals.
Rupi Bhabha Sanctuary, Pin Valley National Park, Kanawar Wildlife Sanctuary and The
Great Himalayan National Park together constitute one of the largest areas of relatively
undisturbed Western Himalayan ecosystem in North India. The upper catchments of the
Tirthan, Sainj, Parvati and Jiwa Nala, flowing from east to west, and mingling into River
Beas, form the ecosystem of the park.
Often referred to as Jawahar Lal Nehru Great Himalayan National Park, it is spread over an
area of 50 sq km. Musk deer, brown bears, Himalayan thar, ibex, black bears and rare
species of snow leopard can be seen in the park.
Closed canopy forests constitute a part of the vegetation of the region. Oak forests, alpine
meadows, sub-alpine and alpine scrub communities constitute the flora of the region.
Herbaceous species, many of which have medicinal and aromatic properties, along with
Indigofera, Viburnum, Sarcococa and Berberis species also constitute the vegetation of the
region. Western Tragopan and more than 300 species of birds representing the Western
Himalayan Avifauna find abode in the park.
The largest remaining population of Himalayan Thar in India is found in the park. Its
prominence is also evident from the fact that it is the only place in the Himalayas where
Bharal occurs virtually side by side with Himalayan Thar. Timings - Opening &

11. Jalori Pass has an elevation of 3,223 metres above sea level. The pass connects Rampur in
Shimla District with Kullu Valley. In addition to these, the pass also connects Kullu Valley
with other areas of Himachal Pradesh like Shimla and Kinnaur. Timings - Opening &

12. There is an ancient Temple of Lord Ram in Manali. If you love the sap effect in open, check
out the hot sulphur springs with separate bathing tanks for ladies and gents. Look at the
amazing Turkish type showers with baths are also fitted nearby. Hot water from the nearby
spring is offered for bathing. It is hot no matter what the surrounding temperature is! Timings

13. Rahala Falls, a popular picnic spot, is situated at the starting point of the Rohtang Pass.
Water dripping from precipitous rocks and glaciers serve as the source of the falls. The area
around the waterfall is marked by thick deodar forests and birch trees. Snow- capped
Himalayan peaks mark the background of the waterfalls.
14. Manali Wildlife Parks and the Manali Sanctuary. If you are lucky, you might get to see
leopards, brown bears, and squirrels, Musk Deer, Flying Fox, Himalayan Black Bear and
Stripped Hyena. There are trekking routes and other places to hike through the virgin

15. Bhrigu Lake is surrounded by the Himalayas. Its attraction as a sacred spot stems from the
belief that Rishi Bhrigu wrote the Bhrigu Samhita at the site. Further, he also used to
meditate near the lake. While trekking in the region, tourists can visit Nehru Kund, a natural
spring that originates from this lake.


Kullu
1. Jagatsukh is one of the biggest villages in Kullu, which is famous for an ancient Shiva
Temple, built in shikhara style. In this hamlet, tourists can also find the chalet-roofed temple
dedicated to Goddess Sandhya Devi, the small shrine of Gaurishankar and Sharvali Devi
Temple. Tri-ratha sanctum roofed by a shikhara is the distinguishing attribute of these
temples. It is believed that these temples were constructed in the beginning of the 8th
century.
2. Prashar Lake is situated at a distance of 49 km from Mandi. This sacred beautiful lake is
named after the great sage Prashar who is believed to have meditated in this region.
Located at an elevation of 2730 m above sea level in a valley, this lake offers a 360 degree
view of snow covered mountains. The depth of the lake is unknown but is considered to be
very deep and has a floating island on it.
Prashar temple, an ancient temple dating back to the 13th century, is located close to the
lake. Dedicated to sage Prashar, this three storied temple built in Pagoda style is one of the
finest examples of hill architecture and is believed to be built using wood from a single tree. It
has beautiful wood carvings and a roof made of slate tiles. The temple is reached by trek
from Prashar Road.
A traditional fair is organized annually near the lake in the month of June. The water of
Prashar Lake is considered to be pure; bathing and fishing are not allowed. The temple and
lake is covered under snow during winters.
Trekking enthusiasts can also enjoy trekking to the snow covered mountains and valleys
3. Deo Tibba is located at the attitude of 6,001 m above sea level. The site contains grazing
pastures of the Gaddi shepherds and the Chandertal Lake. It is popular among tourist and
local climbers, who are interested in various mountaineering activities. Trekking Deo Tibba
takes tourists through a route that passes various glaciers. The trip also provides beautiful
views of deodar trees and various Himalayan peaks.
4. The Pandoh Dam is an embankment dam built on the Beas River in Mandi district and is
located at a distance of 10 km from Manali.
This dam is a part of a run-of-the-river power design and it diverts the water of the Beas to
the southwest through a system of tunnels and channels, which are about 38 km long. The
water of the dam is used for power generation at the Dehar Power House before it is
discharged into the Sutlej River.
The Pandoh Dam is set up in a beautiful surrounding and the manmade lake created by the
dam draws people to it. Located en-route to Manali from Kullu, travellers can stopover at the
site and take some photographs. However, the rules and regulations may not allow you to
stop on the bridge for a long time. Nevertheless, you can proceed further and find a suitable
spot.
Some of the other prominent tourist attractions located nearby are River Beas, Hadimba Devi
Mandir, Solang-Nullah, Beas Kund, Jogini waterfalls, Solang Valley, Manikaran Gurudwara
and the Naggar Castle.
