2. POLYGONS
Types of polygons:
Regular and irregular: Polygons are regular when all sides are equal and all internal
angles are equal. Otherwise they are irregular.

Regular Irregular
Concave and convex: A convex polygon has no angles pointing inwards. More precisely,
no internal angles can be more than 180. If there are any internal angles greater than
180 then it is concave.

1.1. DRAWING REGULAR POLYGONS.
A. PREVIOUS CONCEPTS. TYPES OF REGULAR POLYGONS.
Inscribed polygon: This is a polygon which is inside a circumference. Its vertices are in
contact with the circumference and the center of the polygon is the center of the
circumference.
Circumscribed polygon: This is a polygon whose sides are tangent to a circumference.
This means that the circumference must be inscribed inside the polygon.

DRAWING REGULAR POLYGONS.
To draw a regular polygon we need to know the
number of sides and the length of its side or the
length of the radius of the circumference
circumscribing it.

DRAWING REGULAR POLYGONS KNOWING
THE RADIUS OF THE CIRCUMSCRIBED
CIRCUMFERENCE.
There are two ways to make regular polygons inscribed in a circumference: a general
method that is used to draw any regular polygon, or a particular method for each specific
polygon (which is more exact).
In this unit, we will use these particular methods to draw the following polygons: an
equilateral triangle, a square, a pentagon, a hexagon, a heptagon and an octagon.
We will also learn the general method to help show how to draw a regular polygon of
any number of sides inscribed in a circumference.
