Anatomy of the

45-second

VBN Value Statement

We are delighted that you will be a guest at our Verity Business Network (VBN). We
know that you will find it both productive and enjoyable. Many of our guests leave a VBN
meeting with solid new business opportunities.
We ask only one thing in return: That you introduce yourself, and your offer, briefly. In 45
seconds, or less.
Its in your interest, as well as ours. A succinct, compelling description of your offer will
enable others to hear it, understand it, and act upon it.
And your ability to introduce yourself briefly but powerfully allows us to run our meetings
efficiently, and on time.
So come prepared with a 45-second Value Statement. Craft it beforehand, and practise
it so that you sound fluent and can deliver within the 45-second time limit. We believe

its rude to cut people off with a bell or buzzer. But nor do we appreciate anyone taking
advantage of our good manners.

Heres how it works:

A VBN Value Statement is designed to introduce your business to the members and
guests that attend our VBN meetings. It is not a resume or CV. It is a well-constructed
introduction that will help others understand your business, what it is you do, and how
they can refer business to you.
It is not meant to share every aspect of your business, but rather to provide a brief
snapshot of it, in whole or in part. You will have ample time both before and after the
VBN meeting to elaborate on your offer while networking.
Heres how to build it:
45 seconds allows you to deliver a maximum of 5 brief sentences. Here are the 5
sentences we suggest you use in constructing your VBN Value Statement:
Identity

Unique Offer

Example

Ideal Referral
+
Close_______
VBN Value Statement
Sentence 1: Your identity
Your name, title/occupation, and company/organization.
Sentence 2: Your unique offer
State what makes your offer distinct or different from anyone else.
Sentence 3: An example:
Illustrate your offer with a brief example of how you added value, i.e. helped, a client or
customer.
Sentence 4: Ideal referral
Identify your ideal client or customer, i.e. the ideal referral for me is.. OR
When someone needs (x), please refer them to me.
Sentence 5: Your close

Sum it up with one line, i.e. at (x) we are/do/provide, etc. It could be your tagline, or a
few summary words. Make it memorable and compelling.
It takes some effort, but the results are well worth it. We look forward to hearing your
Value Statement, and learning more about your offer, when you join us at the VBN.
Thank you.
