Dont ignore the check engine light

(NAPSI)Dont take this lightly: One of the most vital signals of an
improperly functioning vehicle is the check engine light and, when illuminated, it alerts the driver to a variety of existing potential problems.
Nevertheless, vehicle checkups during car care events throughout the country reveal that the check engine light is on in nearly one out of 10 vehicles.
Some common malfunctions that can cause the check engine light to illuminate include a faulty oxygen sensor, mass airflow sensor, or spark plugs
and wires. If the light flashes, the condition is more critical and must be
checked immediately to prevent severe damage, which may include catalytic converter damage.
When the check engine light comes on, it means that a vehicle system
such as the ignition, fuel injection or emission control is not operating properly, even if the vehicle appears to be running normally, explained Rich
White, executive director, Car Care Council, the source for the Be Car Care
Aware campaign promoting regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair.
A glowing check engine light doesnt mean you have to immediately
pull the car to the side of the road, but it does mean you should get the car
checked out as soon as possible. Ignoring the warning light could result in
costly repairs. At the very least, the light could alert you to an engine problem that is negatively impacting fuel economy, he added.
When scheduling service, make sure the automotive shop that examines
your vehicle has professional technicians who are trained and certified in
OBDII diagnosis and repair. The technician will connect your vehicles computer system to a diagnostic scan tool, which will indicate why the light was
activated.
At the same time, the technician can analyze idle speed, throttle
response, engine temperature, fuel system pressure, manifold vacuum,
exhaust emission levels and many other key indicators. Once the problem is
fixed, the cars computer is reset to initiate its release process. The technician
should then be able to tell you what needs to be done and discuss potential
warranty coverage and further testing, if necessary.

Smores Week returns to Slice of Ice in Red Arrow Park

On New Years Eve, Slice of Ice will offer
rink and rental hours from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on
New Years Day for families and friends to
skate in the new year. Residents and visitors
with their own ice skates can skate for free. Ice
skates may be rented for $7 per pair for ages
17 and under, and $8 per pair for adults.

Families are invited to skate at Slice of Ice

and gather round the firepit to make campfire
treats during Smores Week, Dec. 26Jan. 4,
at Red Arrow Park. Roasting hours during the
event week are 2-10 p.m. and on Sunday, Jan.
4, from 2-6 p.m. Slice of Ice, voted
Milwaukees Best Place to Skate three years
in a row, is located at 920 N. Water Street.
Patrons may purchase smores kits at the
firepit. Each kit contains ingredients for the traditional graham-cracker/chocolate/marshmal-

to cast a chill on your energy budget. By
winterizing your home, you can enjoy
increased warmth and comfort and lower
your heating costs, which can significantly
increase energy savings.
Here are some steps you can take:
Caulk, patch or weather-strip any
areas around windows and doors that might
allow cold air in or warm air out. Your fireplace, too, is a source of heat loss, so close
the damper when the fireplace is not in use.
Put storm windows in place. New,
insulated glass windows can provide important energy savings. However, if you cannot
afford new windows, consider covering

exterior and basement walls, floors and

(measured in R-values) recommended for
your area. It's also wise to insulate water
heaters and pipes to minimize heat loss.
Replace or clean filters in your heating unit to improve airflow and efficiency.
Schedule an inspection of your system
by a heating professional. Heat pumps and
oil-fired furnaces need annual tune-ups; gasfired equipment can be serviced every other
year. Professional technicians are usually

Next, take advantage of a programmable thermostat and set the temperature

with Microsoft environment; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently in a mature and professional
manner; two year technical degree, certificate or equivalent experience
desired. All candidates must be willing to work any available shift; as
well as overtime. Corrugated background and/or boiler license is a plus,
